Alpharma Announces Nomination of Two New Board Members

Alpharma Inc. (NYSE:ALO), a global specialty pharmaceutical company, announced the nomination of two new members, Peter W. Ladell and David C. U’Prichard, to its Board of Directors. Two current board members, Ingrid Wiik and Glen Hess, have announced they will not be standing for re-election at the company’s 2007 Annual Stockholders meeting. Messrs. Ladell and U’Prichard will be recommended to the company’s stockholders, along with the remaining four incumbent directors, for election at Alpharma’s upcoming shareholder meeting on June 5, 2007.

Peter W. Ladell was Chief Operating Officer of Hoechst Marion Roussel from 1997 until the company’s December 1999 merger with Rohne-Poulenc Rorer to form Aventis Pharmaceuticals., and served as a member of the Aventis Executive Committee until 2001. During his thirty-five year tenure at Hoechst Marion Roussel and its predecessors, he served in several other senior leadership positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer, Hoechst Marion Roussel, North America and President, Marion Merrell Dow Europe.

David C. U’Prichard was Chief Executive Officer of 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, Inc from 1999 to 2003 and Chairman, Research & Development of SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1997 to 1999. From 1986 to 1997, he held several key scientific leadership positions at Zeneca/ ICI Pharmaceuticals and Nova Pharmaceutical Corporation. Dr. U’Prichard is currently a Venture partner for Red Abbey LLC and was a Venture partner for Care Capital LLC from 2004 to 2006 and a Venture partner for Apax Partners Ltd from 2003 to 2004.
