Schiphol aims to remain affordable for airlines and travellers: proposal not to implement planned charge increase
Schiphol wants to freeze charges for airlines next year so that flying to and from Schiphol remains affordable. Following a 41% charge increase in 2025, a further 5% increase was planned for 2026. Schiphol now intends not to implement this increase. The airport is currently in talks with airlines about this proposal.
‘We understand that the 2025 charge increase has a significant impact on airlines flying to and from Schiphol. This increase is necessary to invest in quality and to encourage airlines to use their quietest aircraft. Important steps are being taken in this regard. At the same time, we see that Schiphol is performing well financially and that some airlines consider Schiphol to be too expensive. This requires us to find the right balance. That is why we are in discussions about the charges and are considering reducing the planned charge increase for 2026 to 0%. This will enable us to continue connecting the Netherlands with the world in an efficient and affordable way.Robert Carsouw, CFO
An important aspect of the proposal is a voluntary contribution from Schiphol that would prevent further increases in 2026. This allows Schiphol to accommodate airlines in keeping fares manageable. Schiphol is able to make this proposal now because it has focused on efficiency and cost control in airport operations, without compromising on quality and safety at the airport. At the same time, Schiphol continues to invest in quality, innovation and the incentivisation of cleaner and quieter aircraft. The proposal is part of ongoing consultations with airlines. Based on the responses and input from the airlines, Schiphol will make a formal decision on the charges at the end of October.
