“This is a very inspirational book. Appropriate for family members of all ages.” – Iola Pulley
Helen J. Slaughter is the founder of Mothers Beneath My Wings, a non-profit organization where she used her entrepreneurial skills to help youth trapped in homelessness. She is also an advocate for bullying awareness and prevention, as well as a devout Christian who encourages prayer among children.
Recently, she has taken on the new mission of becoming a children’s book author as part of her work to spread a message of faith.
She just finished a very successful book signing session for one of her works at a major outdoor book festival at Printers Row in Chicago. The title of her featured work is “The Big Race and God’s Gifts: A Story to Inspire and Encourage Kids to DREAM BIG! Dreams,” which touches on several of the lessons she has shared in her non-profit experience.
Its story follows two friends - Tarrence the Rabbit and Samuel the Squirrel. The two animal friends have a few things in common, such as big dreams and a love for running.
Still, Samuel is the shy kid as well as the new one at school. That has made him a prime target for bullies like Big Bad John and his gang. It will be up to Tarrence to help Samuel, as well as show readers what it means to strengthen a friendship while pursuing a big dream together.
Slaughter has been very excited to use her books to help children discover the treasure that is God’s love, and looks forward to sharing her work with bigger audiences. They can be sure to expect more from her at other upcoming book fairs.
