After months of fervent work on exciting ideas and new developments, we’re taking a moment to look back at the most recent updates that have improved the WeTransfer experience. Each step forward has been guided by a clear purpose: ensuring the platform keeps evolving for the better and keeps pace with the changing needs of creatives and teams.
From introducing greater functionality to amplifying the reach of emerging artists, here’s a snapshot of the recent work invested to enhance and advance WeTransfer—both the platform and the creative community around it.
Key product improvements
We focused on advancing WeTransfer’s core functionality in ways that directly address real-world challenges for individuals, creators, and teams—while still preserving the hallmark simplicity that makes the platform effortless to use.
Significant effort was invested in making the experience for our subscribed customers more robust than ever:
- Recoverable downloads. Because expired links are no longer dead ends, you can now recover files yourself—eliminating delays and the need to reach out to the sender.
- Malware scanning. Every transfer is now automatically scanned, keeping harmful files out of your workflow and away from your projects.
- Greater access control. With the new Restricted option you ensure that only specified recipients are able to access your transferred files, and you receive a detailed notification for every download.
We’re also rolling out a new functionality for everybody: file previews before download. It’s perfect for quick checks and saves you from cluttering your desktop with unnecessary downloads. Also, since it was built with mobile in mind, you can easily save, locate, and view files on the go.
Small yet tangible refinements
While the headline features shaped the biggest advances this year, we also invested in the smaller details that make the day-to-day WeTransfer experience smoother—removing friction and increasing confidence with every transfer. For example, we’ve introduced:
- Faster file uploads. Uploads now start as soon as you add a file to your transfer, cutting down the time needed to share your work.
- More personalized email notifications. Customizable settings let you decide which transfer-related emails you want to receive (and which ones you don’t).
- Enhanced reliability. We’re working on strengthening service reliability, and implementing proactive alerts about issues such as poor connectivity so you can address them before they interrupt your transfers.
Transparency and content ownership
As we roll out new features and capabilities, we’ve revised our Terms of Service to align with these functionalities and with regulations. Doing so isn’t just a box-ticking exercise, but part of our commitment to transparency and to safeguarding your content ownership.
We listened to your feedback after communicating these updates and have since clarified the paragraphs regarding ownership and licensing. We’d like to remind our customers of our promise regarding the rights and control you maintain over your content:
- Your content belongs to you
- Your content is never used to train AI
- Your content is never sold to third parties
These commitments remain a cornerstone of how we build and operate the platform as it evolves.
Support for the creative community
WeTransfer has deep roots in the creative community, and we’ve continued to nourish that ecosystem.
WePresent
Our arts platform WePresent has collaborated with dozens of artists and collectives this year to bring their ideas to life and give them global reach.
2025 partnerships and projects so far include:
- Guest curatorship with Riz Ahmed
- BFI London Film Festival highlights: Original Sin by Amrou Al-Kadhi and Highway to the Moon by Letitia Wright
- Sarah Bahbah’s video series,
- Poetry and photography collection from Mustafa, [url=https://wepresent.wetransfer.com/stories/mustafa-nour]NOUR
- Eight emerging creatives highlighted each month in our WePresent Selects series
- Upcoming films with Aneil Karia and Nadia Hallgren
These follow a banner year in 2024, when WePresent:
- Featured over 100 artists from 39 countries across six continents
- Helped 85% of featured artists reach a new audience
- Created opportunities for 30% of the program’s artists to showcase or exhibit their work
Additional contributions
In addition to our WePresent collaborations, we’ve continued backing The Supporting Act in their mission to support emerging artists and artist-led groups from under-represented communities. Last year we doubled down on our support, donating $3 million to the foundation.
And we continue to dedicate 30% of WeTransfer’s advertising space to give-back campaigns and editorial content.
Looking ahead
The past few months have been full of progress, and there’s still so much to come. We’re still determined—and excited!—to make WeTransfer ever more reliable, more effective, and more intuitive.
Your needs and feedback will continue to shape everything we do as we build the future of WeTransfer with ambition and care. We’ll keep listening, iterating, and delivering the improvements you ask for. In short, we’ll keep working as hard as ever to help you share your work—with clients, with collaborators, with the community at large.
