Day 6 gets underway at the Athletics World Championships in Tokyo with a first glimpse of Great Britain’s Olympic star Keely Hodgkinson. The 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year has struggled through an injury hit season but is the favourite for gold after running the fastest time in the world this year just a few weeks ago. Training partner Georgia Hunter-Bell also lines up in the 800m heats.

The session starts with qualifying for the women’s 5000m with Faith Kipyegon back on the track after the 1500m earlier in the week. Meanwhile, after finishing 4th at the last World Championships in Budapest, Morgan Lake is looking for a place in the final as women’s high jump qualification also gets underway.

Coverage of day 6 from the World Athletics Championships continues with the women’s 800m heats.

The women’s triple jump final also gets underway with Venezuela’s defending world champion Julimar Rojas aiming to win the title for the 4th time in a row.

Men and women’s 200 and 800m semi-finals

The fastest men and the women in the world return to the track with the semi-finals of the men and women’s 200m. American Noah Lyles and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson are both back to defend the titles they won in Budapest 2 years ago alongside British Champions Zharnel Hughes and Dina Asher-Smith. The men’s 800m semi-finals follow with Emmanuel Wanyony the favourite to add a world title to the Olympic gold he won last summer. Great Britain’s Max Burgin will be fighting for a place on the podium.

Men and women’s 400m finals

Day 6 of the World Athletics Championships concludes with the finals of both the men and women’s 400m with medal chances for Great Britain in both. 

Meanwhile in the women’s event, world indoor champion Amber Anning is aiming for an outdoor title to complete the set. 400m hurdle world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone the favourite in that one.
