MIDDLEBORO, MA - Patrons of almost 75 Massachusetts libraries participating in SAILS Library Network can check out and download digital music, as well as audio books and eBooks from the comfort of their own home with a library card. The technology and content is provided by OverDrive, Inc., the leader in digital media services for more than 5,000 libraries world-wide.

“We have offered digital books for two years, and we are excited to expand this service with music,” said Deborah Conrad, Executive Director. “Our collection has grown tremendously and there is truly something for everyone.”

The new digital music collection offers Blues and Jazz, Classical, Folk and World, Concertos, Orchestral music, and more. Users can also select from nearly a thousand digital book titles including the “Lord of the Rings” series, and books by best-selling authors such as James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Michael Crichton, Kate Wilhelm, and Janet Evanovich.

Patrons can check out and download music and digital books to their personal Windows-based PC or notebook. If a title is not available, the patron can place a hold and be notified via email when it is available. Some titles are available for unlimited, simultaneous checkouts by users. Titles can be transferred to a wide range of supported devices to enjoy anytime, anywhere and some can even be burned to CD to listen in the car or on any standard CD player.

At the end of the 14 day lending period, digital titles will expire from the patron’s PC and are returned to the library. The automatic check-in guarantees no late fees, lost or damaged items.
