Alstom is partnering with Operation Lifesaver in the U.S. to help STOP Track Tragedies during the See Tracks? Think Train® Week and beyond
Our collaboration with Operation Lifesaver, alongside our industry peers, is a powerful reflection of this commitment.
Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, today announced that it is joining Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) in the United States in its mission to educate communities about rail safety, raise awareness, and save lives. OLI is a nonprofit organization and nationally-recognized leader in rail safety education. Since 1972, OLI has been committed to preventing collisions, injuries and fatalities on and around railroad tracks and highway-rail grade crossings, with the support of public education programs in states across the U.S. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to safety and community engagement.
Every year, 2,300 North Americans are killed or seriously injured at rail crossings or on railroad tracks. In the U.S. alone, a person or vehicle is hit by a train every 3 hours. Each year the rail industry marks Rail Safety week. This year from September 15 to 21 organizations across the rail industry come together for See Tracks? Think Train® a time when industry partners, safety organizations, community leaders, first responders, and more – remind the public about how to stay safe around railroad tracks and trains.
“At Alstom, rail safety begins with our unwavering commitment to quality — in our products, systems, and services. Ensuring optimal performance is not just a technical goal; it’s a responsibility we carry to protect our people, passengers, and the communities we serve. Our collaboration with Operation Lifesaver, alongside our industry peers, is a powerful reflection of this commitment. Through community outreach and education, we proudly contribute to a shared mission: saving lives and fostering a culture of safety across the rail network" said Tania Fauchon, Head of Railway Safety, Alstom.
To date, more than 50 Alstom employees across North America have volunteered to be trained to become Operation Lifesaver volunteers, and bring the OLI education material to life in their own communities.
“OLI is thrilled to welcome Alstom employees as Operation Lifesaver Authorized Volunteers (OLAVs) sharing rail safety education in their communities, " said Rachel Maleh, Executive Director, Operation Lifesaver, Inc. "We are thankful for their partnership in supporting our lifesaving mission to help #STOPTrackTragedies"
“As North America’s largest private passenger rail operator, we are committed to keeping our people, passengers and communities safe. We are very proud of all our team members who have stepped up to volunteer their time to help save lives. We believe that through this partnership, we can make a significant impact on rail safety awareness and contribute to the well-being of the riding public and the communities we serve.” Josee Ouellet, Vice President Services North America Alstom.
