Tesco has partnered with Pampers to offer free Pampers Preemie Protection nappies specially designed for premature babies, in over 350 Tesco Pharmacies across England, Scotland and Wales.
One in 13 babies in the UK are born prematurely1 and have skin that is up to two times thinner than that of a full term baby, which makes it highly sensitive to touch2. Pampers Preemie Protection nappies have been developed with neonatal nurses and parents to be extra gentle on even the most fragile of skin.
Designed to fit around medical lines and leads, the nappies aim to make nappy changing easier for parents and nurses and support up to six hours of leakage protection to help keep baby’s delicate skin protected, whilst enabling moments of touch and bonding that are essential for their development3.
Sarah Sturgeon, Tesco Category Buying Manager for Baby Products, said:“We know how overwhelming the early stages of parenting can sometimes be for families, particularly those with babies who are born prematurely. That’s why we’re proud to be working with Pampers to make sure parents have access to nappies that are specially designed for their little ones who arrive early. We hope that this little help will make a big difference and relieve some of the stress for parents with new babies that may need extra support.”
This partnership builds on Tesco’s ongoing commitment to supporting families and communities. It follows previous donations of premature baby clothing to NHS neonatal units across the country and aligns with Pampers’ long-standing mission to care for babies’ happy, healthy development.
Ian Morley, Vice President, Sales P&G Northern Europe, has first-hand experience of life in a neonatal unit after having two premature children. Ian said:“Nothing can prepare you for the shock and upheaval that comes when you have premature babies. I know that for many parents, the knowledge that we have a partnership with Tesco to provide these incredible small nappies for their babies, will give one less thing to worry about at a challenging time.”
The Pampers Preemie Protection nappies come in sizes tailored for babies weighing less than 1.1lb (500g) — three sizes smaller than standard newborn nappies.
Since 2017, Pampers has donated more than two million nappies to UK hospitals, pharmacies and parents, and has worked closely with Bliss, the UK’s leading charity for babies born premature and sick, helping families with essential support and resources during their time of need.

About Bliss
Bliss exists to give every baby born premature or sick in the UK the best chance of survival and quality of life. We champion the right of every baby born premature or sick to excellent neonatal care, experience and outcomes. We achieve this by improving care, giving voice to babies, and supporting parents to be partners in care. Bliss was founded in 1979 by a group of concerned parents who discovered that no hospital had all the equipment nor the trained staff it needed to safely care for premature and sick babies. Determined to do something, these volunteers formed a charity to give vulnerable babies the care they deserve. More than 40 years later, Bliss has grown into the leading UK charity for the 90,000 babies born needing neonatal care every year.
