Together into the Future: Polestar and Matthias Schweighöfer announce creative Partnership
Before this year’s IAA Mobility in Munich (September 8–14, 2025), Swedish electric car manufacturer Polestar announces a strategic partnership with actor, director, and producer Matthias Schweighöfer. The collaboration kicks off with a jointly produced short film; a creative take on the current debate around the future of mobility. The film premiers on September 8 – coinciding with the world premiere of the new Polestar 5.
Filming took place in Gothenburg, the brand’s headquarters, and the script was co-developed by Schweighöfer and Polestar. It creatively highlights the benefits of electric mobility while criticizing the current political and industrial shift back toward combustion engine technology, while the Polestar 5 is portrayed as a solution for a better future.
“Polestar stands for bold ideas, progressive technology, and a clear stance. We’re excited to make these values even more visible together with Matthias Schweighöfer. With the short film, we’re drawing attention to the discourse around electromobility and aiming to showcase a better future,” says Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar.
[p"I am fascinated when design and tranquillity combine to create a new form of freedom. Together with Polestar, I want to develop a new perspective on mobility – inspired by cinematic experiences. As in the cinema, it’s all about atmosphere, movement, and emotions. I love the clarity of the design and the serenity of the driving experience. For me, this is a completely new perspective on mobility, and I am very much looking forward to experiencing the Polestar 5 for myself soon" says Matthias Schweighöfer.[/p]With Schweighöfer, Polestar secures not only one of the most popular faces in German cinema but also a filmmaker, gaining increasing international attention for its brand campaign. In addition to his established career in Germany, he’s appearing more frequently in major international productions, building global recognition. Most recently, he starred in the Netflix thriller “Brick”. The partnership with Polestar is intended to spark creative projects beyond the traditional automotive space.
The new Polestar 5 is a high-performance electric model offering 884 horsepower. Just a few weeks ago, Polestar announced a partnership with Borussia Dortmund (BVB), showcasing the performance grand tourer as a prototype. With Matthias Schweighöfer, Polestar now secures another strong partnership.
“The collaboration with Matthias Schweighöfer is something truly unique. Together, we’re creating films and experiences that convey our shared belief in a better future,” explains Michael Manske, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Polestar. “The IAA provides the perfect stage to present our joint short film titled Wake-Up Call from the Future. With the Polestar 5, we’re unveiling a vehicle that sets new standards in the automotive industry. We’re extremely proud of this car and excited that Matthias is presenting it with us.
Schweighöfer will not only attend the exclusive world premiere of the Polestar 5 on Monday evening at IAA Mobility but will also visit the Polestar booth on Ludwigstraße in the Munich´s city center on Tuesday, 9th of September.
Just a few weeks after the IAA, Matthias Schweighöfer will celebrate another German premiere in Munich. With a planned start on November 13, he will appear in the new feature film “The Life of Wishes” (Das Leben der Wünsche), which will debut in the city.
