Gustavo Mateos, appointed Managing Director of the Signalling, Infrastructure and Railway Safety Unit at Alstom Spain and Portugal

Alstom has appointed Gustavo Mateos as the new Managing Director of the Signalling, Infrastructure, and Railway Safety Unit for Spain and Portugal. In his new role, he will lead national and international projects in these areas from Alstom’s Center of Excellence in Madrid, which encompasses technologies such as signalling, railway safety, digital mobility, cybersecurity, electrification, and infrastructure maintenance.

In addition, Gustavo Mateos joins the Executive Committee of Alstom Spain and Portugal, strengthening the company’s strategic leadership in the region. 

Gustavo holds a degree in Industrial Technical Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICAI) and an Executive MBA from IE Business School. With over 30 years of experience in the railway sector, he has held senior positions at SEPSA and InfoGlobal, managing projects in markets such as the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

He joined Alstom in 2015 as Head of Operations in the signalling unit, and in 2017 took on the role of Project Director. Since then, he has led flagship initiatives such as signalling systems for ADIF’s railway network, the Barcelona tram, the Barcelona metro, the Málaga metro, and more recently, the automation of Line 6 of the Madrid Metro. Internationally, he has participated in major projects including the Tren Maya in Mexico, the metros of Porto, Istanbul, and São Paulo, the Cairo monorail, and high-speed trains in Saudi Arabia.

Alstom’s Signalling, Infrastructure, and Railway Safety Unit in Spain and Portugal operates a Center of Excellence in Madrid, where more than 800 experts work on digital mobility solutions. This center is a global benchmark in signalling and railway safety technologies, both urban and interurban, with over 27 projects developed worldwide in recent years.
