ESA at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney, Australia
The European Space Agency (ESA) will participate in the 76th edition of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) to be held in Sydney, Australia from 29 September to 3 October. This year’s theme will be ‘Sustainable Space : Resilient Earth’.
ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher will attend the Congress and participate in the traditional opening plenary for Heads of Agencies. Members of ESA leadership and technical experts will be in Sydney during the event, available for further discussions and individual interviews (depending on calendars).
ESA will also host networking opportunities at our stand in the exhibition area, as well as being represented at the Global Networking Forum, among the Emerging Space Leaders and in several technical sessions. A more detailed agenda of on-site events and live opportunities on ESA Web TV will be sent to media closer to the date.
Media attending the event in person are welcome to come meet us at Booth 671.
ESA is dedicated to fostering cooperation in space research and technology, aiming to advance scientific knowledge and operational space applications. Our mission drives us to push the boundaries of exploration and innovation.
At the same time, our vision focuses on benefiting humanity and nurturing a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future in space and on Earth.
This year’s theme resounds profoundly with ESA’s mission and with the strategic goals published earlier this year in Strategy 2040, and for which an important milestone is approaching with ESA’s Council at Ministerial level taking place in November.

About the European Space AgencyThe European Space Agency (ESA) provides Europe’s gateway to space.
ESA is an intergovernmental organisation, created in 1975, with the mission to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space delivers benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
ESA has 23 Member States: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia are Associate Members.
ESA has established formal cooperation with four Member States of the EU. Canada takes part in some ESA programmes under a Cooperation Agreement.
By coordinating the financial and intellectual resources of its members, ESA can undertake programmes and activities far beyond the scope of any single European country. It is working in particular with the EU on implementing the Galileo and Copernicus programmes as well as with Eumetsat for the development of meteorological missions.
