Las Leonas de Ponce proudly announced the commencement of their 2025 Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF) regular season with a victory during its debut match on the evening of August 27th, marking the franchise’s long-awaited return to Puerto Rico’s premier women’s league.

The BSNF regular season tipped off league-wide on August 23 and on Wednesday, Head Coach Miguel Toro led a refreshed roster highlighted by three new imports: Talia von Oelhoffen (USC/Oregon State), Shelby Cheslek (Gonzaga; ex-Morovis), and Taya Corosdale (Oregon State/Duke).

“Ponce returns with hunger, identity, and a clear commitment to world-class women’s basketball,” said serial investor and philanthropist Yashira Enmary Moradian. “We’ve proven that we are ready to compete on the court and are committed to enhance our inherent connection with our fans both on the Island, and in the diaspora.”

Built for Puerto Rico — and for Boricuas in the Diaspora

Indeed Leonas will amplify outreach to Puerto Rican fans residing throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Florida, for example, is now home to 1.15 million Puerto Ricans, Massachusetts to 312,000+, and the Orlando and Boston metro areas respectively rank among the top U.S. hubs by Puerto Rican population.

The club’s media plan will indeed prioritize Spanish-language content, family-friendly game-night highlights, and digital streams that are easy to access from the mainland.

And the Leonas’ season launches amid record growth across women’s basketball.

The WNBA has already broken its single-season attendance record in 2025, surpassing 2.5 million fans with weeks left in the regular season — eclipsing a mark that had stood since 2002; and the 2025 NCAA women’s tournament finished as the second-most-viewed on record by total minutes watched.

“We want every fan — in Ponce, or in key metropolitan hubs with vibrant Puerto Rican demographics such as Orlando, Boston and beyond — to feel that these Leonas belong to them,” Moradian concluded.

The BSNF hosts 10 teams, with approximately 18 games per club (home/away vs. each rival); most games take place at 8:00 p.m. Mon–Sat and 6:00 p.m. Sundays. Select games are carried on Puerto Rico broadcasters and digital platforms.
