WEBWIRE

After four weeks and eight episodes, which began with fourteen celebrity recruits taking part in a condensed version of SAS Selection in Wales, the final episode of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins series seven, which aired on Monday night, revealed that three recruits passed the course

They are Troy Deeney (Recruit #10), Michaella McCollum (Recruit #3) and Lucy Spraggan (Recruit #4).

On announcing the news, Chief Instructor, Billy Billingham said: “This course is designed to push you through barriers you would never imagine.  To strip you back, physically, mentally and emotionally.  This course is brutal. Our world is brutal.  It will always come down to one question that we will ask ourselves.  Would we have that person stood next to us.

Number 3, 4 and 10.  Congratulations, you have all passed this course.  Well done.

Seriously guys, good effort, that was a tough, tough course.”

The three recruits reacted to passing the course:

Troy: “What an experience! When I saw it was just me, Lucy and Michaella, I thought we were the ones who hadn’t made it. What a relief! Unusual word, but cathartic, that’s how I’d sum it up. Brilliantly mind-boggling. I’d recommend it for everyone. But you have to go in curious. Are you curious about who you are? Are you able to go in free and take instructions? At the very start, hoods off, stood on a pier, waves crashing, rain, DS Billy looking at you like he’ll kill you. That’s when you’d quit if you didn’t want to be there. That broke a few early. It didn’t break me.”

Lucy: “I couldn’t believe it, to pass, wow, incredible. I felt so emotional. It was about 9 million times worse than I thought it was going to be, and I thought it was going to be bad. I really did! It’s utterly traumatising, but unbelievably rewarding. It’s a once in a lifetime thing because I will never do that again!”

Michaella: “I couldn’t believe it when they said I’d passed, I just started crying, we all did. I really surprised myself. I didn’t expect that. I didn’t have any intentions of making it to that point, so when I did, I was really proud. I was like, yes! Anyone thinking about doing it, 100% do it. Forget about all the horrible and difficult stuff, those type of opportunities don’t come very often in life. And you’ll really get to see a completely different version of yourself, and the real, true you, which we disguise and we compress with everyday life, we forget who we really are, so do it!”

Straight after hearing the news, the Lucy said: “I can’t believe it.”

Billy responded: “embrace this moment. It’s yours. You did so well.”

Michaela reacted: “thank you so much. I didn’t think I’d make it here. That was traumatising.”

Billy responded to Michaella: “Your kids will be proud.”

Directing Staff Foxy commented to Troy: “Good effort, mate. F**king good effort. Solid, mate.”

Rudy praised his success: “You got it, brother. You got it, brother.”

Troy responded to the DS: “Thank you very much, top man.”

Lucy turned to Michaella and says: “Babe, we did it.”

Michaella turned to her fellow recruits: “We all getting matching tattoos, then?”

Troy laughed and Lucy said: “Oh, yeah, I am. I’m definitely getting one…”

Lucy added: “Freedom!”

Directing Staff, Rudy Reyes added: “It’s hard to describe what it feels like to pass selection in words because the feeling is expansive.  You feel a part of something so honourable and so true.  That little thing that you earn can never ever be taken away from you.”

On reaching the end of Selection, Foxy said: “It is an awesome feeling. It’s like the end of an extremely long slog.  It’s been brutal, it’s been painful – but the relief at the end is amazing. You feel like you can achieve anything.  Coming towards the end of selection, my DS got us together and said: ‘Lads, this is going to be the hardest thing you’ve done to date.’ But he says: ‘Just dig in.’ He goes: ‘It’s worth it. It is worth every ounce of pain, because at the end of it, if you’re successful, you’re part of one of the best clubs on the planet.’ And he was right.”

Before beginning the course, the three recruits reflected on why they wanted to take part and what they wanted to achieve:

Michaella said“In my life, I’ve made so many mistakes, and it’s led me to stay in my comfort zone way too much. I think this is something so challenging, and something I never thought I could possibly do. Learning that I’m capable of doing that would feel quite amazing.”

Troy said“What I’m hoping to discover is that the good parts of me can be accentuated. I’m hoping to be able to come through and it be proud of myself. I put myself up for this, I did the work for it. I’m getting bored of being Troy the footballer, because there’s a lot more of me than that.”

Lucy said: “Everything that happens – and has happened in my life – had to happen for me to be here, exactly where I am right now, and that means all of the shit. It means, like, all of the trauma. There’s nothing I’d trade in this world to not be exactly where I am right now. "
