WEBWIRE

Tomorrow, 19th August, at 10:00, tickets will go on sale for events taking place at the Velodrome for San Sebastián Festival’s 73rd edition. The programme includes two showings featuring the first episode of the twelfth season of Go!azen, as well as the premiere of Daniel Sánchez Arévalo’s latest film, Rondallas and Hasta que me quede sin voz, the non-fiction about the musician Leiva. The auditorium with a capacity of more than 2,000 people will also host a broadcast of the closing gala, the EITB Gala, the traditional Concert & Screening organised with the Basque National Orchestra and the SGAE Foundation, and the morning showing for schoolchildren, Ikastetxeak Belodromoan.

On Tuesday 23rd, at 19:00, the bill will feature the premiere of Rondallas / Band Together, marking the return to the cinema of Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (Madrid, 1970). Javier Gutiérrez, María Vázquez, Judith Fernández, Tamar Novas and Fer Fraga star in this comedy drama about the people of a Galician town who decide to revive the local rondalla (traditional music group), an ode to the resilience and importance of the community when times are hard.

On Thursday 25th, also at 19:00, the giant screen will show the non-fiction Hasta que me quede sin voz, a film narrated in first person at this particular time in his existence by the musician Leiva, talking about his whirlwind life and the delicate situation he suffers due to an irreversible lesion in his vocal cords. The film is the result of a joint endeavour between Mario Forniés (Madrid, 1976), who has produced, amongst many other projects, music videos for the singer-songwriter from Madrid; Lucas Nolla (Madrid, 1978), editor of numerous films, and Sepia (Ushuaia, 1980), photographer and director of music videos.

In addition, for the first time, there will be a double showing of Go!azen, on Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th, both at 18:30. The screenings will feature the first episode in the twelfth season of the series Go!azen where like last year its protagonists will give a live performance prior to the showing itself. Itziar Gomez Sarasola (Errenteria, 1964) directs this latest instalment of musical adventures at the Basakabi summer camp.

Tickets for screenings in the Velodrome have a price of 8.75 euros and can be purchased from tomorrow, Tuesday, 19th August at 10:00 from the Festival (https://sansebastianfestival.janto.es) and Kutxabank (https://tickets.kutxabank.es) websites. Tickets are limited to 4 per showing and those buying 10 or more tickets in a single purchase will benefit from a 25% discount. Discounts are also applicable for holders of the Donostia Kultura and the Kutxabank Gaztetxartela cards.

Invitations for the EITB Gala and for the Concert & Screening

For the first time, the Velodrome will host the EITB Gala, including the premiere of the first episode of the Euskal Herria Hegan programme to have its release this autumn on ETB1, with the title of Gipuzkoa hegan, a screening to be accompanied by the performance of the Navarre Symphony Orchestra taken through its steps by the composer Fernando Velázquez, the Goikobalu choir and singer Olatz Salvador. Gipuzkoa hegan, by Javi Gutierrez (Bilbao, 1965) and Lorea Perez de Albeniz (Elgoibar, 1974), will, for the first time, reveal the secrets of the territory from the air. This event will start at 18:00 on Sunday 21st.

Moreover, the Velodrome will once again host the Concert & Screening organised with the Basque National Orchestra and the SGAE Foundation, on Saturday 20th September at 18:00. The event combines the symphony performance of soundtracks and a collage of scenes from the films that gave them their inspiration.

Tickets for both the EITB Gala and for the Concert & Screening are free of charge; however, the corresponding invitation must be collected, from 13-19 September, from the San Sebastián Festival information point at the Kursaal or the Donostia Turismo office on the Boulevard, or on the same day of the concert from the Velodrome. In the case of the EITB Gala, invitations can also be acquired from the Festival and Kutxabank websites from tomorrow, 19 August.

Finally, the Velodrome will also provide the setting for the Ikastetxeak Belodromoan morning screenings, an initiative thanks to which thousands of boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 11 years can enjoy the experience of watching a film that unites the cinema and science. These sessions jointly organised by the San Sebastián Festival, the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and the Filmoteca Vasca aim to send a positive message about science to students at schools throughout the territory, while also demonstrating the city’s strong connection with scientific research. Furthermore, as usual, on the last day of the Festival, this year falling on Saturday 27th, the Velodrome will host the live broadcast of the closing gala and will screen the film closing and a second film to be announced shortly.
