Hungarian airline Wizz Air will open a new scheduled route between Turku and Bucharest, the capital of Romania, in October. This new connection strengthens Wizz Air’s route network at Turku Airport and is part of the airline’s broader investment in the Romanian market.

“We are pleased about this new opening at Turku Airport! The new route further enhances connections between Turku and surrounding areas to Europe, supporting both tourism and business in the region,” says Petri Vuori, Director of Route Development at Finavia.

Wizz’s operating model allows for agile aircraft relocation between routes to maximize profitability and to open new potential destinations even on short notice. Traditional network airlines often base their route choices on historical passenger flow data, whereas low-cost carriers boldly experiment with new and sometimes surprising markets. One of Wizz’s key target groups is travel related to visiting friends and relatives, which this route will certainly serve, says Carol Aren, Director of Air Traffic Development at Visit Turku Archipelago, in a press release.

The first flight on the new route will take place on October 27, 2025. Flights will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, using Airbus A321neo aircraft with 239 seats.

Wizz Air also flies from Turku Airport to Gdańsk, Poland. Previously, the airline has operated flights from Turku to destinations such as Rome, Skopje, Kraków, and Budapest. The new route complements Turku Airport’s growing European network, which also includes SAS routes to Copenhagen and Stockholm, as well as Air Baltic’s connection to Riga.

More details and tickets are available on the airline’s website.
