As part of its strong commitment to sustainability, CaixaBank has joined Green & Human, the leading collaborative association for sustainable tourism in Spain. With this move, the bank becomes the only financial institution in the community, reinforcing its role as a key player in driving a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

Through this partnership, CaixaBank will help generate shared value among businesses, public administrations, and communities by leading initiatives that promote the economic and social development of tourist destinations, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

David Rico, Managing Director of CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, stated: “The goal of this alliance is to transform tourism into a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative model. At CaixaBank, we will support initiatives, projects, and working groups promoted by Green & Human, especially those focused on financing, economic sustainability, and business transformation within the tourism sector.”

According to data published by Green & Human, the initiatives developed so far have led to a reduction of more than 70 tonnes of CO₂ over the past year and the identification of projects valued at 120 million euros.

Financial leadership in sustainable tourism

CaixaBank’s membership as a driving bank of Green & Human consolidates its leadership in the tourism sector through a threefold approach: financial capacity, strategic vision, and institutional contribution. The bank will provide tools, expert knowledge, and financing mechanisms to amplify the impact of the projects promoted by the association.

As a financial institution specialized in the tourism sector through its Hotels & Tourism division, CaixaBank will actively contribute to the identification, structuring, and financing of transformative projects, as well as to the co-creation of new workstreams focused on responsible investment and the scalability of sustainable models.

In 2024, CaixaBank reached a historic record of four billion euros in financing for the hotel sector, with more than three thousand six hundred operations aimed at renovations, innovation, and sustainability in key destinations such as the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Madrid, the Canary Islands, and Andalusia.

This membership is part of CaixaBank’s 2025–2027 Sustainability Plan, which aims to mobilize one hundred billion euros in sustainable finance. Through this roadmap, the bank seeks to support its clients in the transition toward a greener, fairer, and more digital economy.

“We want to be the leading European bank in sustainability and being part of Green & Human is an opportunity to continue generating positive impact through our financial and social role,” added Álvaro Colino, Director of Sustainable Business Product Coordination at CaixaBank.

Green & Human, tourism of the future

Green & Human is a non-profit association founded by Hyatt Inclusive Collection and made up of a network of tourism companies that promote sustainability as the backbone of the tourism of the future. Its goal is to create a collaborative ecosystem that addresses the challenges posed by the 2030 Agenda.

Among its founders, key drivers, and collaborators are renowned companies such as Grupo Hotusa, PortAventura World, HBX Group, HP, Palladium Hotels, etc. Joining them is its methodological partner, Biosphere.

CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, strong support for the hotel sector

Thanks to its specialization in the tourism sector through CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, the bank is well-positioned to quickly identify and adapt to the needs of this type of business.

Through CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, the bank offers the hotel market a range of differentiated products and services to help optimize business profitability and simplify daily operations, considering the needs of each type: hotels, tourist accommodations, and campsites. It provides service through a team of professionals specialized in the hotel market and more than two thousand three hundred business advisory experts across the bank.

In addition, CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism has a strong focus on sustainable projects, such as those that incorporate improvements in energy efficiency or in water and waste management; and on other social impact areas such as accessibility, integration of local communities, or the use of locally sourced products. The bank promotes initiatives such as the ReUtilízame program, which channels surplus materials from hotel companies to social organizations; or Incorpora, which facilitates access to the labor market for people at risk of social exclusion.

Hotels & Tourism has agreements with more than forty hotel federations and associations and regularly organizes meetings with leading entrepreneurs in the sector across Spain. The financial institution also participates in the main international tourism fairs (Fitur, WTM, ITB); in the most relevant sectoral events held in Spain; and is also a member of UN Tourism, the United Nations agency responsible for promoting responsible, sustainable, and accessible tourism for all.
