New Whole Foods Market in McKinney, Texas, to Open August 27
Store features more than 600 products from 120+ suppliers from Texas and its neighboring states
Whole Foods Market will open a new 47,918 square-foot store, located at 8701 W. University Drive in McKinney, Texas, on August 27. The store will open at 8:00 a.m. on opening day, and regular store hours will be 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. daily.
The store’s design will combine modern touches with a nod to Texas history featuring warm wood, classic brick textures and metal fixtures. The store will feature colorful wall murals and simple woodwork creating a welcoming atmosphere. The new location’s product assortment features more than 600 local items from Texas and its neighboring states sourced with the help of Jordan Bray, Forager for Local & Emerging Brands at Whole Foods Market.
Features of the McKinney store include:
- An array of certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good produce, plus offerings from four local farms, including fresh mushrooms from Kitchen Pride, sprouts from Green Valley Food Corporation, orchids from Color Orchids and plants from Klepac Greenhouses, Inc.
- Specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers. Local items include Gouda Smoked Pimento from Zilks Foods, sourdough sea salt crackers from Sourdough Project and Brownie Batter Chocolate Bar from Good Girl Chocolate. The cheese counter is overseen by trained cheesemongers who can offer recommendations for any occasion.
- Curated grocery section filled with private label favorites from 365 and Whole Foods Market brands and a variety of local products, including almond flour tortillas from Siete Family Foods, almond milk from MALK and whole milk from Mill-King Market and Creamery.
- Full-service seafood counter featuring only sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed seafood and a large selection of ready-to-cook seafood and large oyster selection which can be shucked to order.
- Full-service meat counter with butchers available to cut steaks and poultry to order, and sausage made in house. Local options include applewood smoked bacon from Pederson’s Natural Farms, grass-fed bison from Force of Nature Meats and pork tamales from Padrino Foods.
- An extensive selection of 530 wines and more than 250 craft beers, 17 of which were sourced from 15 local breweries.
- A Prepared Foods department featuring hot food and salad bars, pizza, soups and sushi made fresh daily from Kikka Sushi.
- Bakery department offering made-in-house bread as well as everyday favorites, such as Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake and brown butter cookies. The department also carries a wide variety of special diet items. Local offerings include Sticky Toffee Pudding Co., Better Bites Bakery and Sinfull Bakery.
- Wellness & Beauty section featuring more than 16 local products. Local products include supplements from Bluebonnet Nutrition and bar soap from SOAPGIRL.

All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous Quality Standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 flavors, colors, sweeteners and other ingredients commonly found in food.
