Ed Rowley’s “Extinction Event” is a science fiction novel that follows Suzanne Ray, a brilliant graduate student, who has reasons for mistrusting AIs. When sent to investigate the newly installed AI upgrade to a four-hundred-year-old SETI radio telescope, she quickly found flaws in the AI logic. Suzanne observed a pattern that means the end of life on Earth.

Through her investigations, she met up with Tommy Coyle and his partner, Bill Shogan, a genetically engineered individual (GEI). They are representatives of the world’s largest construction company. Tommy got mesmerized by Suzanne and agreed to help her with her investigations. Now, they are in a race to prevent the world from having an extinction event.

“Extinction Event” by Ed Rowley will be available on display for book lovers at the book festival at Printers Row. Visit the ReadersMagnet exhibit to check out the book display.

Author’s Biography:

Ed graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering. Ed worked at the Dresden Nuclear Power Plant, where he was certified as a senior reactor operator (SRO). While working, Ed attended school at night to earn a Master of Science in environmental engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).

After forty years of writing technical documents, Ed retired and decided he’d try his hand at science fiction. Ed’s youngest daughter, Julia, is an actress. Ed decided he’d write a story with the main character having the traits and personality of his daughter. In the event this book is made into a movie, he’s already got someone ready to play Suzanne Ray.

Ed drew on his nuclear engineering background and experience to create a considerable number of new science fiction concepts that are featured in this book. This book also describes how many of today’s problems will be solved in the future. Ed also felt that a book needs a twist, and indeed, there is one.
