Dr. Janel Louise Ohletz Sets Out to Showcase Her Memoir of Surviving the Hospitality Industry and Building a More Resilient and Authentic Life

Today, Dr. Janel Louise Ohletz is a regenerative agriculture researcher and educator as well as a life coach. Many years prior, she was a chef struggling to maintain her hold in the high-pressure world of hospitality. How she survived the pressure and the resulting problems is a story she shares in her memoir “Between Farm and Fork.” And as part of her bigger content project, she has scheduled the book for an exhibit at a prominent publishing showcase in the Midwest.

“Her reflections are not only honest but also deeply human, revealing how she transformed pain, uncertainty, and effort into clarity and wisdom. This is more than a memoir; it’s truly a guide for anyone seeking meaning, resilience, and quiet power!” - Caner Ferhatoglu

With a PhD in Soil Science and a solid background in regenerative agriculture, most people would think Dr. Janel Louise Ohletz was born to be another advocate for sustainable farming.

They would be partly right.

In truth, she also has had quite an extensive background as a chef who navigated the cutthroat world of fine dining and entrepreneurship. But at some point, the pressures took their toll. It resulted in financial struggles, a devastating divorce, and even a serious health crisis.

The story of how she survived it all, as well as her turnaround to her current life, is told in her memoir “Between Farm and Fork: Journey to Find a True Path.”

In it, she shares more of her life as a young girl raised on a subsistence farm in New Hampshire, and how she eventually made her way back to the farming life after stripping away her past traumas. “Between Farm and Fork” also doubles as a guidebook, making Dr. Ohletz a very distinct author who is combining sustainable living with self-help.

These days, she is working on promoting the book as part of a larger content creation project where she plans to share her insights as both a life coach and a chef. She will even be exhibiting the book at upcoming book events, including a book festival at Printers Row in the city of Chicago.

Her goal is to help others recover from their own traumas, while also letting go of all the doubts and fears. And at the same time, she guides the same people on how to treat themselves better, one healthy meal at a time.

Those who would like to see the exhibit for “Between Farm and Fork: Journey to Find a True Path” will find it under the exhibit of self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet. The book festival at Printers Row is scheduled for September 6-7, 2025, at Chicago’s Printers Row Park. The book is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Author Bio

Dr. Janel Louise Ohletz is a storyteller, scientist, educator, and chef whose work bridges the practical with the deeply personal. With a PhD in Soil Science and a professional background in regenerative agriculture and sustainability, Janel brings a unique perspective to the conversation about healing and regenerating—the heart, the body, and the soul.

Her life has taken many forms: from milking cows on a New Hampshire subsistence farm to cooking for guests at her own inn and restaurant, to working in soil health education and mentoring others on their own path to renewal. At the core of it all is her belief that we each carry the tools we need to create change—but sometimes they’re buried beneath fear, failure, and the stories we’ve been told about who we should be.

Her debut book, “Between Farm and Fork: Journey to Find a True Path,” blends memoir, life lessons, and even a few cherished recipes. It tells the story of how she faced down financial ruin, personal heartbreak, and a looming health crisis—and came out stronger, more grounded, and more connected to her purpose than ever before.

Janel writes for those who feel stuck, burned out, or uncertain of what comes next. Her voice is candid, compassionate, and deeply relatable—an invitation for readers to pause, reflect, and reclaim their own path.

When she’s not writing, Janel enjoys gardening, exploring handcrafts, baking sourdough, and traveling with her husband, Stefan. Whether working with soil or words, she is passionate about creating things that nourish, connect, and endure.
