In celebration of Singapore’s 60th birthday, the LEGO Group has partnered with the National Museum of Singapore to unveil a hyperlocal and immersive LEGO® experience that celebrates the nation’s rich heritage and vibrant culture through play.

At the heart of the collaboration is Singapore’s largest LEGO mural, built with 265,743 LEGO bricks to depict a row of colourful, nostalgic shophouses echoing the early days of Singapore’s bustling commerce in the 1960s.

Officially recognised by the Singapore Book of Records, the mural was unveiled today by Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry. The mural’s reveal marks the start of the National Day Celebrations at the National Museum of Singapore from 18 July to 9 August.

As part of the celebrations, visitors are invited to add the final bricks to this record-breaking mural to cement its place in the Singapore Book of Records.

Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry, said: “Our Singapore story is a shared one. It is fitting that we commemorate SG60 by coming together as a community in celebration of our unique identity, culture and heritage. This record-breaking mural is symbolic of our strength and unity - brick by brick, every Singaporean has helped build this nation we call home. I am delighted to see this partnership between the LEGO Group and the National Museum of Singapore, which invites all Singaporeans to celebrate our nation’s journey and contribute to our shared story.”

Ágnes Molnár, Marketing Director of Singapore, Malaysia and APAC Travel Retail, the LEGO Group, said: “LEGO bricks and play have long been a tool for storytelling and imagination, able to connect generations and inspire pride in creations. We are honoured to partner with the National Museum of Singapore to celebrate SG60 and the country’s community spirit with visitors of all ages through the universal language of play and creativity.”

Celebrating the Singapore story through LEGO play

Running from 18 July to 9 August in the Stamford Gallery at the National Museum of Singapore, the Stories of Singapore: Building Our Heritage, Brick by Brick showcase invites visitors to explore the nation’s history through LEGO creations. The colourful display features a large-scale 3D Hawkerman model, including iconic Singaporean landmarks such as the Changi Airport Control Tower and Bumboats along the Singapore River, built entirely from LEGO bricks.

Recognising that Singaporeans are widely known for their love of food, the showcase also features intricate LEGO builds of beloved local dishes like Hainanese Chicken Rice, Chilli Crab, and the ever-so-famous Singaporean breakfast - kaya butter toast with soft boiled eggs.

In a celebration of community spirit, visitors can also enjoy LEGO artworks by students of the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) that depict scenes inspired by the iconic Singapore River. To complete the experience, visitors can participate in a LEGO Make & Take activity to build their very own Mini LEGO Orchid as a commemorative SG60 memento.
