CaixaBank and imagin customers can now make transactions via Bizum with Portugal, Italy, and Andorra, in the same way they do within Spain. This means that simply using the recipient’s phone number, without needing bank cards or knowing the account number, users can send and receive money with the same level of security and trust that Bizum offers domestically.

This functionality has been developed as part of the EuroPA (European Payments Alliance) project, which aims to enable cross-border payments for around 50 million banking customers across the continent. Currently, the main players driving the interconnection of their solutions are Bizum (Spain and Andorra), Bancomat Pay (Italy), and MB WAY (Portugal). However, Poland and the Nordic countries are expected to join the initiative in the coming months.

The process for making international transfers is just as simple and fast as domestic ones. To send money, the user only needs to select a contact from their phonebook or manually enter the phone number, specify the amount to send, and the money will be instantly available in the recipient’s account.

All transactions carried out within the EuroPA framework adhere to the same standards of protection and reliability that regular users of the service are already familiar with.
