THE BIG PICTURE

In a virtual demonstration during the Balikatan 2025 military exercise, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and the U.S. Army connected existing and emerging technologies to demonstrate joint integrated fires. This is the first time the technology was tested in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s area of responsibility.

In a test conducted during the Maritime Strike mission on May 5, 2025, a Lockheed Martin and U.S. Army team successfully shared targeting data among several platforms to re-direct a simulated rocket in-flight to engage a surface target that was on the move. This is a big step towards giving the U.S. Army another capability to engage moving and maritime targets with HIMARS.

WHY IT MATTERS

  • Integrating offensive and defensive assets that weren’t originally designed to work together provides the warfighter greater agility on the modern battlefield. Securely integrating sensors, effectors and mission command systems allows users to choose the best effector for flexible employment against each target.
  • This is the first step to creating a truly multi-domain missile that can be used for offensive and defensive missions.
  • Data linked fires also provides the U.S. Army with a capability able to engage mobile targets without an expensive seeker.

EXPERT PERSPECTIVE

“Our customers are demanding Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control, and Lockheed Martin is delivering. We securely and effectively integrated previously disparate battlefield assets – sensors, effectors and mission command systems – to create an innovative Joint Fires capability that transforms existing Army assets. This is military modernization in action.”

  • Tim Cahill, president, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control

The recent test is part of Lockheed Martin’s ongoing series of exercises to integrate existing technologies with enhanced 21st Century Security® capabilities to enable prompt, data-driven decisions across all operational domains.
