Acclaimed Crooner Kashus Culpepper Is Joined by Americana Awards Artist of the Year Sierra Ferrell for “Broken Wing Bird”

Marking nearly a year since his first-ever release as a recording artist, acclaimed Southern crooner Kashus Culpepper adds to his buzzed-about catalog of growing acclaim, and meteoric rise, with the release of “Broken Wing Bird (feat. Sierra Ferrell).” The new song drops during a milestone week for Culpepper, ahead of his national TV debut on CBS Saturday Morning tomorrow and following his Nissan Stadium debut at CMA Fest.

“I’ve always loved the sound of classic country. It brings me peace whenever I hear it,” shares 2025 GRAMMY.com Artist to Watch Culpepper. “I wanted to write a song that replicated that feeling. And the same feelings I got when I would listen to all those old Willie Nelson songs. Something about those tunes made me feel like I was on a back porch late afternoon drinking sweet tea or something. And having Sierra Ferrell on this song makes it even better for me.”

On “Broken Wing Bird” Culpepper and Ferrell’s distinctly different voices weave together on the gorgeous ode to a delicate but fraught love. The sublimely powerful song was written by Culpepper and producer Brian Elmquist and recorded in Muscle Shoals. Earlier this week, on Wednesday, the Billboard Country Rookie debuted the song on the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage.

Last week, Culpepper made a victory lap around Music City beginning with a standing ovation at Darius and Friends at Ryman Auditorium, where The Tennessean noted, “The standout performance of the night was Culpepper.” Bookending the week, the 2025 Opry NextStage member made his debut at Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest, with additional performances during the week at Spotify House and Chevy Vibes stage.

Continuing to take “his hauntingly beautiful country-Americana-inspired sound” (People) on the road, following recent dates with Leon Bridges and Dylan Gossett, he’ll join Whiskey Myers and a variety of festival billings throughout the summer with dates to come in the fall supporting Darius Rucker and Sierra Ferrell.
