Production begins on the 11th series of flagship Sky Arts series Landscape Artist of the Year. The much-loved show, which continues to spotlight artistic talent across the UK, will return with a brand-new expert as Eva Langret, Director of Frieze London, joins the judging panel for the first time.

Langret brings her extensive expertise and keen eye for contemporary art to the series. As Director of Frieze London, she has played a pivotal role in shaping one of the world’s most influential art fairs, championing emerging talent. Prior to joining Frieze, she was Head of Programming at London’s Tiwani Contemporary, where she focused on artists from Africa and its diaspora and has curated widely across institutions and independent spaces. She is known for her sharp critical eye and commitment to platforming underrepresented voices in the art world. She joins long-standing judges Tai Shan Schierenberg and Kathleen Soriano.

Eva Langret, Director of Frieze and new judge, said: “I’m honoured to join Landscape Artist of the Year, it’s a brilliant celebration of artistic practice and offers a unique lens on how we engage with our environment through creativity. I’ll be looking for bold ideas and work that pushes the boundaries of landscape art while demonstrating personal expression.”

Langret steps into the role following the departure of Kate Bryan, who, after a decade on the Landscape Artist of the Year judging panel, is stepping down to focus her energy on other projects, including her continuing role as a judge on Portrait Artist of the Year.

Kate Bryan, adds: “After ten incredible and memorable years on the show, it feels like the right moment to hand over the baton. It’s been a privilege to be part of something that means so much to so many people and to witness such extraordinary talent from the wildcards to the artists to the exceptional crew that make it all possible. Eva is a wonderful addition, and I can’t wait to see how the series evolves with fresh eyes on the panel. I am delighted to be still be continuing with Portrait Artist of the Year alongside my brilliant fellow judges, Tai and Kathleen.”

Filming for Series 11 begins today and will take place across a range of stunning and historically rich UK locations, offering artists captivating new scenes to interpret. This year’s filming locations include:

  • Dover Castle, Kent
  • The Lake District, Cumbria
  • The Thames from HMS Wellington, London
  • Dover Ferry Point, Kent
  • St James’s Park, London
  • The Ouse Valley Viaduct, West Sussex
  • The Falkirk Wheel, Scotland

These remarkable settings will challenge contestants to capture the diverse beauty and character of Britain’s landscapes, from dramatic coastlines and bustling waterways to tranquil parks and architectural marvels. Series 11 promises to deliver more of the inspiring artistry, heartfelt stories, and expert critique that fans have come to love.

Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director of Unscripted at Sky, remarked: “We are excited to welcome Eva Langret to the show who will bring a whole new expert perspective. I’d like to thank Kate for a) opening up arts criticism to me and our millions of devoted Landscape Artist of the Year viewers, b) looking windswept and interesting at all the sunny and not so sunny locations she’s travelled to as a brilliant judge on the show, and c) being a total delight to work with. Kate is a real expert in her field – she wears it lightly and communicates brilliantly, opening up the visual arts in an intelligent and accessible way. The Landscapes will miss her, but luckily for us she’ll continue to lend us her eyes and ears on Portrait Artist of the Year for which we are grateful.”

Danielle Graham of Storyvault Films added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Kate for her passion, expertise, and the energy she’s brought to Landscape Artist of the Year over the past decade.  As we turn the page, we’re thrilled to welcome Eva Langret to the judging panel. Her curatorial vision and deep commitment to contemporary art will bring a fresh and exciting perspective to the series — we can’t wait to begin this new chapter with her.”

Landscape Artist of the Year  will air on Sky Arts, Freeview and streaming service NOW in 2026.
