Hot Wheels Teams with Artist Kenny Scharf for a Limited Edition 1967 Ford Thunderbird Die-Cast

WEBWIRE

Hot Wheels just announced a limited 1967 Ford Thunderbird die-cast featuring an iconic “KarBombz!” paint job from world renowned LA-artist, Kenny Scharf (photo below). Additionally, a limited run of 100 die-casts, signed by Kenny Scharf himself and featuring a unique base, will be available on a first come, first served basis.

The limited edition signed 1:64 scale die-casts will be available for pre-order via Mattel Creations on June 9th at 9:00am PT. Unsigned versions of the die-casts will also be available.

Known for his iconic “KarBombz!,” Scharf has been tagging cars in his unique style for decades and his murals can be found on buildings around the world - (link to examples). His works have been featured in prestigious museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC, The Hammer Museum in LA, the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, and the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing.

To coincide with the 1:64 scale die-cast, Hot Wheels enlisted noted builder Kenny Pfitzer of Pfitzer Designs in Corona, CA, to create a life-size version of the Thunderbird which was then hand painted by Scharf himself. The vehicle’s suspension was modified for an aggressive stance and a custom hood cowl was designed to match the die-cast. Additionally, the Ford features also features BF Goodrich Silvertown Redline radials mounted on a set of American Racing 500 Mono Cast wheels.
