Maureen Anne Meehan’s Books-to-Film Projects Earn Global Festival Nod
Legal Thrillers and Bold Non-fiction Garner Acclaim in Both Literary and Cinematic Circles.
Acclaimed author Maureen Anne Meehan is making waves not only on bookshelves but also across international film festival circuits. Known for her gripping Mary MacIntosh legal thriller series, Meehan’s work is now earning attention from the film community. Her works “Red Hands” and her audacious new non-fiction title, “60 Dates in Six Months (with a Broken Neck),” are gaining ground at some of the world’s most recognized independent film festivals, including nominations at Cannes Independent Shorts and Cannes Arts Fest, and official selections at the Global Indie Filmmaker Awards, Colortape International, and Bridge Fest.
A finalist for both the Eric Hoffer Award and the International Impact Book Awards, Meehan’s work spans genres—from courtroom suspense to sharp satire. In “Red Hands: A Mary McIntosh Novel,” she uses gripping, tension-filled storytelling to spotlight the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, exploring themes of justice, identity, and systemic discrimination. The novel has been adapted into a screenplay by acclaimed writer Paul Ehrmann and is currently being pitched internationally. In contrast, “60 Dates in Six Months” is a bold, comedic, and unexpectedly moving account of modern dating after grief, set against the real-life challenge of recovering from a life-threatening injury. The production of this film-adapted book begins this month.
Meehan is a seasoned attorney and mental health judge in Orange County, California, who draws on her background in education, law, and personal tragedy—the murder of her legal secretary—to craft gripping legal thrillers. Born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming, she sets her 19-book Mary MacIntosh series in her hometown and now lives in Southern California with her rescue kittens, occasionally visited by her four adult children.
Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, with book trailers and screenplays shared online. She’s been featured at the esteemed London Book Fair and L.A. Festival of Books, building momentum in the global storytelling scene.
As her stories gain traction in the film world, Meehan is now seeking to collaborate with filmmakers and producers ready to bring her complex characters and socially relevant themes to life on screen.
