Aon Names Dan Hartung as Global Head of Event Response for Risk Capital

CHICAGO – WEBWIRE

Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, announced that Dan Hartung has been named global head of event response for Risk Capital, effective immediately.

Hartung brings nearly 15 years of experience as a meteorologist and catastrophe analytics leader. In this role, Hartung will oversee Aon’s event response team and strengthen the firm’s global event response capabilities with actionable insights for insurer clients – enhancing preparedness and responsiveness before, during and after natural disasters. Additionally, Hartung will expand delivery of real-time insights to commercial risk clients, supporting a more proactive and data-driven approach to risk management.

Hartung will lead the team to estimate industry exposure and financial impacts for significant regional and global natural catastrophes. In addition, the team will leverage the full breadth of Aon’s proprietary capabilities and third-party collaborations to deliver these insights. This includes drawing on the firm’s automated event response solutions, industry exposure databases, and insured and economic loss data from Aon’s Catastrophe Insight team.

Paul Shedden, head of Risk Capital analytics at Aon, said: “Natural catastrophe events are inherently complex, resulting in substantial economic losses, including $125 billion already in 2025. Accurately assessing their impact requires synthesizing data from a wide range of sources. By enhancing our event response capabilities, we’re uniting Aon’s expertise to provide clients with a single, integrated view of risk. We’re pleased to have Dan lead this critical function, helping clients navigate volatility, strengthen resilience and make more informed decisions.”

Tracy Hatlestad, global head of property reinsurance at Aon, added: “As property insurers face increasing pressure to manage catastrophe risk with speed and precision, Aon is committed to delivering timely, data-driven insights that support better decisions—from claims response and reinsurance recovery to internal reporting. Dan’s deep expertise in catastrophe analytics and his proven ability to lead through complexity make him the ideal person to guide this effort. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of our event response capabilities across the insurance sector and beyond.”

Hartung will also be collaborating towards a new platform for event analytics to be launched later this year. This will visualize complex natural catastrophe events, access risk information on a portfolio and location level, and receive tailored alerts.

Hartung will continue to be based in Baltimore.
