Barnes & Noble Presents Their June Favorites National Book Club Selection: The Listeners by Maggie Stiefvater

Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the newest books, games and music to be featured in Barnes & Noble bookstores nationwide.

The Listeners is the Barnes & Noble Book Club pick for June and the bookseller welcomes readers to join author Maggie Stiefvater at a free live virtual event on Tuesday, July 8^th at 3PM ET. The author will be in conversation with Megan McDowell, Store Manager of the Barnes & Noble at The Arboretum in Austin, TX, to discuss the title as well as answer questions from audience members. Attendees must register via Eventbrite to access the livestream on Zoom.

Set during World War II, The Listeners follows the life of June Porter Hudson, General Manager of The Avallon Hotel & Spa, an opulent Appalachian retreat that has agreed to host captured Axis diplomats. Leading up to the event, readers can share their thoughts and engage in conversation on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub. During the livestream, readers are encouraged to participate in the discussion and submit questions to be answered throughout.

Barnes & Noble is also pleased to announce its June selections for Albums of the Month in the following categories: Alternative, Pop, Rap, and Soundtrack. The Album of the Month program celebrates the full spectrum of the music industry, highlighting both fresh and classic albums across an array of genres.  

In the Alternative category, For Emma, Forever Ago, the debut album from Bon Iver, tugs on the heartstrings with its gorgeously melancholy vocals set to lush orchestration. Written and recorded in a remote hunting cabin, this modern classic features the hit single “Skinny Love.”

In the Pop category, the bookseller has chosen Lorde’s 2013 studio debut Pure Heroine, written and recorded when the artist was only 16. Containing “Royals”, one of the bestselling singles of all time, this album went on to sell over 5 million copies.

The honor of being the Rap Monthly Pick goes to Madvillainy by Madvillain, the only studio album to come from the highly lauded collaboration between rapper MF Doom and producer Madlib. Critically acclaimed, this eclectic album still seems fresh 21 years later, thanks to the incredible lyricism of MF Doom combined with the flawless beats of Madlib.
