Borealis Appoints Four Key Leaders in its Polyolefins Business Area

Borealis is pleased to announce the appointment of four key leaders in the commercial area to key leadership positions, all reporting directly to Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President (EVP) Polyolefins, Circular Economy Solutions and Base Chemicals:

  • Thomas Reutter, Senior Vice President Polyolefins Business (SVP PO);
  • Christopher McArdle, Vice President (VP) Polyolefins Marketing & New Business Development;
  • Dirk Langhammer, VP Circular Economy Solutions (CES); and
  • Shanila Baseley, VP PO Sales & Customer Experience and Business Intelligence (CXBI);

Thomas Reutter

Thomas Reutter (47) has been appointed Senior Vice President Business Polyolefins with Profit and Loss responsibility for the Polyolefin business unit. Thomas joined Borealis in 2021, with the task to establish a Product Asset and Supply Chain strategy. He has recently assumed the role of Commercial Vice President for Borealis’ Wire & Cable business. Thomas joined Borealis from Dow Chemical, where he held a number of positions in business and supply chain roles in the Netherlands, Mexico, and Switzerland.

He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Martin-Luther University Halle, Germany, with a specialization in Controlling and Supply Chain Management.

Christopher McArdle

Christopher McArdle (50) has been appointed Vice President Marketing & New Business Development Polyolefins. Christopher joined Borealis in 2020, where he led the company’s Polyolefins Strategy and New Business Development Portfolio. Prior to joining Borealis, he accumulated significant expertise in senior commercial roles at Dow Chemical and a 16-year tenure at DuPont, where he served as EMEA Business Director for specialty ethylene copolymers. He holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of Bristol, UK.

Dirk Langhammer

Dirk Langhammer (46) has been appointed Vice President of Circular Economy Solutions (CES). Since joining Borealis from OMV in 2022, Dirk has played a critical role in driving Strategy & Group Development, including Borealis’ M&A activities. He also contributes a wealth of experience from his tenure at OMV, where he held various strategic roles, including VP of Business Transformation. In this capacity, he focused on hydrogen, e-fuels, and advanced biofuels. Prior to OMV, he spent seven years at McKinsey as a management consultant. He holds a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Augsburg, and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from the Technical University of Braunschweig, both in Germany.

Shanila Baseley

Shanila Baseley has been appointed VP Sales & CXBI Polyolefins. Since joining Borealis in 2022, Shanila has demonstrated exceptional leadership in driving the transition towards a circular economy and growing the specialties business. Her prior experience includes leadership roles at DuPont and Innovia, where she focused on global business management, product management, sales, marketing, and R&D in the UK and Switzerland. She holds a Master’s degree in Instrumentation and Analytical Science from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Glasgow Caledonian University, both in UK.
