National Safety Month 2025 and Resources to Protect Workers in Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico in 2023, there were 23 fatal occupational injuries, up from 18 in 2022, and 19 in 2021.
Preventable injuries are a leading cause of death among workers. Nationwide, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that there were 5,283 fatal work injuries recorded as recently as 2023. BLS also recorded more than 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses with private employers that same year.
To raise awareness and to encourage actions to improve occupational health and safety, the National Safety Council (NSC) established National Safety Month in 1996. The event takes place each June, and for 2025, weekly topics for National Safety Month include:
- Week 1 – Continuous Improvement
- Week 2 – Employee Engagement
- Week 3 – Roadway Safety
- Week 4 – Wellbeing
