Maple Leaf Publishing Canada is excited to announce that Margaret Donnelly’s highly anticipated new book, Trump, Tamales and the American Family, will be featured at the 2025 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center from June 27-30, 2025. This thought-provoking title offers unique solutions to one of the most pressing issues in American society today—immigration—and is poised to spark conversation among publishers, librarians, book distributors, and other key industry decision-makers.
Addressing Immigration Challenges with Compassion and Vision
In Trump, Tamales and the American Family, author Margaret Donnelly provides an alternative perspective to the current heated immigration debate. With 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., the book explores ways to offer practical, compassionate, and transformative solutions to this complex issue. Donnelly draws upon historical precedents, including the success of the Marshall Plan and the post-WWII economic reconstruction of Japan, to propose that a similar approach be applied to U.S.-Mexico relations and immigration reform.
Rather than focusing on blame, fear, and division, Donnelly advocates for cooperation, peace, and prosperity—an organic transformation of the Americas where people and resources can work together to create a brighter future. The book highlights the importance of symbolic gestures, such as offering tamales to President Donald J. Trump, a reminder that the people of the Americas share a deep, long-standing cultural heritage. Donnelly’s narrative calls for a shift from a focus on border walls to embracing meaningful change that can bridge divides and build lasting solutions.
A Fresh Approach to Immigration Reform
Donnelly’s work stands out by proposing a thoughtful, visionary way to address both the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and the caravans of refugees fleeing Central and South America. The author urges readers to shift their perspective on immigration, suggesting that we can reimagine the problem and approach it with innovative solutions rooted in mutual benefit. By framing the discussion around shared history, culture, and resources, Donnelly’s book offers a new way to look at the future of immigration—one that is driven by empathy, justice, and sustainable cooperation.
With this important and timely release, Donnelly seeks to inspire a global conversation on how to solve immigration challenges, not through isolation or fear, but through human connection and strategic collaboration.
