The DreamYard Project Programs Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers Public Performance Series for June

A Juneteenth Late Shift, the 47th annual Museum Mile Festival, and Thursday late nights kick off the summer at the Guggenheim

NEW YORK, NY – WEBWIRE

The Guggenheim New York’s acclaimed rotunda exhibition Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers includes a dynamic series of live performances and public programs. Each month, a community partner curates spoken word, music, and live art events that bring to life Johnson’s two major installations—Sanguine, a monumental site-specific work on the building’s top ramp with an embedded piano, and Rotunda Stage, an interactive space for performances on the museum’s floor.

This June, the performance series features readings on Rotunda Stage by poets and writers programmed by The DreamYard Project, an organization committed to social justice through art making. A dynamic lineup of emerging and established voices from the Bronx and beyond include nationally acclaimed poets Aracelis Girmay and former Bronx Poet Laureate Haydil Henriquez, alongside educators and performers Daemond Arrindell, David Flores, Ellen Hagan, and Alondra Uribe, among others. They will engage with the work of Rashid Johnson and honor spoken word, performance poetry, and socially engaged art. Rising voices including Ayling Dominguez, Daad Sharfi, M. Ezra Zhang, and others will also take the stage. These readings offer the opportunity to experience poetry not only as an art form but also as a collective act of imagination and transformation.

In addition to the ongoing performance series, which is announced monthly, the Guggenheim will continue to host the after-hours event Late Shift  as well as programming specifically for teens every month. On June 19, The DreamYard Project’s Rad(ical) Poetry Consortium Fellows will activate the June Late Shift in celebration of Juneteenth.

This June and July, the museum will also remain open until 8 pm on Thursdays, offering audiences extended summer evening hours.
