Sue Bird Launches New Basketball Podcast, Bird’s Eye View, in partnership with Vox Media and TOGETHXR
Debuting on May 16th, the start of the WNBA season, the weekly show will bring audiences elevated analysis and groundbreaking interviews from the world of women’s basketball.
Sue Bird and Vox Media today announced they’re partnering on a new women’s basketball show. Launching on May 16th at the start of the new season of the WNBA, Bird’s Eye View will offer audiences Bird’s insider take on women’s basketball with elevated analysis of some of the most impressive plays and games of the week, exclusive insight into breaking news from around the league, and real time check-ins with some of the sport’s biggest names. With new episodes out weekly on Fridays, the show will be available on audio and video platforms including Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. The show is a partnership between Bird, Vox Media (overseeing sales, marketing, and distribution), ThreeFourTwo Productions (overseeing production, with Tommy Alter and Jason Gallagher serving as executive producers), and TOGETHXR.
“While working on A Touch More with Megan, I realized I wanted to dive even deeper into one of my biggest passions—women’s basketball,” says Bird. “I’m so excited to expand my partnership with Vox Media on Bird’s Eye View. This is a space where I will break down the nuances of the upcoming WNBA season, have in-depth conversations about the league, the players, and the stories that often go untold.”
After a champion’s career spanning three decades regarded as the world’s premier point guard, Bird has left her mark on the WNBA and the world of women’s sports. Bird is one of only seven women to win an Olympic Gold Medal, a World Championship Gold Medal, an NCAA Championship, and a WNBA Championship. She co-founded the woman-centered media group, Togethxr, which aims to further the progress, culture, representation, and coverage of all women and girls in sport. With her fiancé, Megan Rapinoe, Bird also co-founded the production company, A Touch More, which aims to bring more understanding, connection, entertainment, and conversation to the ever-evolving media landscape and co-hosts, A Touch More: The Podcast, also produced in partnership with Vox Media, which covers the intersection of sports and culture.
“I couldn’t be more excited to build on the momentum from A Touch More, and expand our partnership with Sue to launch Bird’s Eye View,” says Vox Media’s SVP and general manager for audio and video Ray Chao. “As women’s basketball skyrockets in popularity, Bird’s Eye View will meet the moment with the expert analysis, in-depth coverage, and defining conversations that fans are hungry for.”
Bird’s Eye View joins a roster of sports programming at Vox Media that includes sports site SB Nation and its women’s sports vertical, Breakaway, as well as a slate of sports-focused podcasts hosted by top-tier talent including Bird and Rapinoe (who co-host A Touch More), YouTube creator and NBA superfan Kenny Beecham (host of Small Ball), Pittsburgh Steelers team captain Cam Heyward (host of Not Just Football), and Andy Roddick (host of Served). A top 10 podcast publisher according to leading industry tracker, Podtrac, Vox Media has been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s “Podcast Power Players” list for three consecutive years and recently programmed an official podcast stage at South by Southwest for a second year.
