Lenovo UK & Ireland is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Menopause Friendly Accreditation, recognising its commitment to supporting employees experiencing menopause in the workplace.

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation, established by Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace in 2020, certifies high standards and proven practices that embrace menopause in the workplace. It is the industry-recognised mark of excellence, awarded to organisations demonstrating a comprehensive approach to menopause support.

To achieve this accolade, Lenovo was assessed by an independent panel and had to demonstrate effectiveness in five key areas: culture, policies and practices, training, engagement and working environment.

Lenovo employs over 800 people in the UK & Ireland across offices in Farnborough, Glasgow and Dublin. The Menopause ERG (Employee Resource Group) at Lenovo supports employees affected by menopause and perimenopause, ensuring they receive the necessary support during this important life stage. The key objectives of the programme are:

  • Break the Taboo: Foster open conversations and raise awareness of menopause to create a more inclusive and understanding workplace environment
  • Build Empathy and Understanding: Educate employees and managers about menopause, its symptoms and its impact on individuals’ work and personal lives
  • Lobby for Support: Advocate for policies and practices that accommodate the needs of employees experiencing menopause, such as flexible working arrangements and necessary adjustments to the working environment
  • Educate Employees: Provide training and resources to help employees and managers better understand menopause and how to support colleagues experiencing it
  • Integrate into Broader Health and Wellbeing Initiatives: Integrate menopause support into Lenovo’s broader health, wellbeing and inclusion strategy, leveraging existing resources such as the Employee Assistance Programme and providing access to health and wellness programmes
  • Communicate Commitment: Ensure that Lenovo’s commitment to being menopause-friendly is communicated clearly internally via newsletters, intranet, webinars and events

In addition to formal policies, Lenovo has several informal practices to support employees experiencing menopause. These include:

  • Peppy App: Offers expert, personalised and confidential support for menopause-related issues, accessible anytime, anywhere
  • Everywoman Menopause Toolkit: Provides a variety of content including articles, podcasts and webinars on menopause and connects women, businesses and organisations worldwide
  • Menopause Champions: Trained members of the Menopause ERG available for private chats with colleagues
  • Adjustments to Office Environment: Includes onsite air-conditioning, fans, period products, quiet spaces, frequent breaks, hybrid working environment, and flexible working hours

Adrian Criddle, VP and General Manager, Lenovo UK & Ireland, commented: “We are incredibly proud to receive the Menopause Friendly Accreditation. This recognition reflects our dedication to creating a workplace where all employees feel supported and valued. Menopause can be a challenging time, and we believe that supporting our employees through all stages of their lives is crucial to maintaining a happy, healthy, and productive workforce.”

Deborah Garlick, CEO and founder of Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace, said:

“Lenovo recognises the importance of combining formal policies and procedures with personalised adjustments, support and discussions in the workplace. This is a powerful combination that shows Lenovo stands firm with changing the culture of its organisation by openly acknowledging colleagues experiencing menopause while ensuring individuals can access practical and emotional day-to-day support as they need.”

Lenovo joins an elite group of menopause-friendly accredited employers, including FTSE 100 companies, charities, public sector bodies, high street retailers, global banking groups and football clubs. All proudly display their badge to show they have made adjustments to their working environment and implemented practices to change the lived experience of menopause in their workplace.
