Workers Memorial Day 2025 and Resources to Protect Employees

CTSI provides consulting, testing, monitoring, and training resources to identify and mitigate occupational exposure risks to safeguard workers, and to help employers comply with health and safety regulations.

New York, NY – WEBWIRE

Protecting the health and safety of workers is indeed a critical function as there were 5,283 fatal work injuries recorded in the United States in 2023.

Workers Memorial Day is observed on the 28th of April each year in the United States. The annual day of recognition is on the same day that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established back in 1971. It is a time to acknowledge workers who have died, been injured, or have suffered from exposure to occupational hazards.

Protecting the health and safety of workers is indeed a critical function as there were 5,283 fatal work injuries recorded in the United States in 2023, a decrease from the 5,486 in 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). BLS also reports that private industry employers reported 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2023, down 8.4% from 2022.

“In just New York City, there were 69 fatal occupational injuries as recently as 2023, which is less than the 83 that occurred in 2022 and the 70 from 2021,” said Frank Selamie, President of CTSI. “The number of work-related injuries and illnesses in the boroughs is exponentially higher. It’s important to remember that each one of these deaths, injuries, or illnesses represents an individual. It is also a powerful reminder that employers are required by law to provide a safe work environment for all their workers.”

To help in this effort, the industrial hygiene and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) professionals at CTSI are dedicated to working with employers to help prevent accidents, injuries, illnesses, and deaths. To mitigate occupational hazards and exposure to harmful substances, CTSI offers workplace assessments, testing, training, monitoring, and consulting services. These same resources are also fundamental components to help keep companies and institutions in regulatory compliance.
