The bookseller also highlights their Game of the Month and four new Albums of the Month

WEBWIRE

Rabbit Moon is the April National Book Club pick and the bookseller welcomes readers to join author Jennifer Haigh at a free live virtual event on Tuesday, May 6th at 3PM ET. The author will be in conversation with Lexie Smyth, Campaign Manager for Fiction at Barnes & Noble, to discuss the title as well as answer questions from audience members. Attendees must register via Eventbrite to access the livestream on Zoom.

Rabbit Moon, the latest from Jennifer Haigh, is a must-read for fans of Amy Jo Burns and Celeste Ng. Set against the backdrop of the bustling and unforgiving streets of Shanghai, Lindsay — the daughter of divorced parents and confidant of her adopted Chinese-born sister, Grace — finds herself the victim of a drunk driving accident that leaves her comatose. Told throughout various points in time, we learn the messy family history that Lindsay sought to escape. Unfortunately, where she found herself was no safe haven. Harrowing, tender and poignant — Haigh’s newest novel is sure to carve out a space in readers’ hearts as well as their bookshelves.

The Barnes & Noble Book Club showcases a newly published work of fiction each month, chosen by their booksellers to provoke, engage and enthrall book lovers. Leading up to the event, readers can share their thoughts and engage in conversation on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub. During the livestream, readers are encouraged to participate in the discussion and submit questions to be answered throughout.

Barnes & Noble has selected Let’s Go! To Japan as Game of the Month for April. Designer Josh Wood created the game as a way to channel his own disappointment after a planned trip to Japan was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He took his detailed itinerary notes and turned them into a board game that allows any player to experience the joys of Japan without leaving their home.

Perfect for travel enthusiasts and board gamers alike, this story-telling travel game brings you similar drafting mechanics as 7 Wonders, allowing players to plan and enact their dream vacation to Japan. The game lasts up to an hour, with fun for up to four players ages 10+, including a rewarding experience for solo gamers as well. If you’ve ever wanted to see the sites in Japan, this is a great place to start, as you’ll bounce between popular tourist locations and enjoy every aspect of Japanese culture.

While supplies last, customers who buy Let’s Go! To Japan at a Barnes & Noble bookstore can get a free gift with their purchase — a beautifully designed Furoshiki, the traditional Japanese cloth used to wrap gifts or other items.

Barnes & Noble is also pleased to announce its April selections for Albums of the Month in the following categories: Americana, Reggae, Rock, and Country. The Album of the Month program celebrates the full spectrum of the music industry, highlighting both fresh and classic albums across an array of genres.

In the Americana category, the British folk-rock titans Mumford & Sons have returned to form with Rushmere, their first album in seven years, bringing more literary lyrics and instrumentation influenced by early American country, folk and blues.

In the Reggae category, the bookseller has chosen Bob Marley’s classic album Legend. Marley would have turned 80 this year, and listeners can celebrate his legacy with this collection of infectious rhythms and uplifting lyrics.

The Rock Monthly Pick honors go to is, the 10th studio album by My Morning Jacket, which showcases the band expanding their signature sound while elevating their artistry to new heights.

The Country Monthly Pick is American IV: The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash. Raw and vulnerable, including the beautifully sung version of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”, this record introduced Johnny Cash to new fans across genres and showed his amazing range and talent, even into his final years.
