That was the topic for the third Jeudi de l’Éloquence public-speaking contest for students from the seven INSA engineering schools in France, organised by VINCI, the INSA Foundation and Usbek & Rica, a French magazine and online community.

As artificial intelligence continues to make inroads into our life in general and our work in particular, students were asked to take a stand on issues assigned at random and revolving around AI in the world of work.

Eight students made it through the regional rounds: one per INSA school and one handpicked by the jury.

The national final took place on 30 January 2025 at l’archipel, VINCI’s head office, where the students engaged in exhilarating wit wrestling to emerge as this year’s champion.

The questions they sparred over:
- Will AI become just another member of the team?
- Can AI advance the common good?
- Will tomorrow’s businesses be algocracies?
- Should AI decide what career we pursue?

Salma Ennouaimi, a 5th-year mathematical-engineering student at INSA Rouen Normandie, won the most votes from the audience and the jury, which comprised:

- Stéphane de Freitas, founder of non-profit Eloquentia, author, and director of the documentary À Voix Haute
- Adrien Etcheberria, AI project lead at VINCI’s Information Systems Department
- Samia Rebii, the INSA Strasbourg student who won last year’s contest

Shout-out to all the finalists – Julien Gomez, Théotime Hoarau, Mathieu Launay, Mario Lethuillier, Célestin Roubinet, Léa Steyer and Elliot Veglio – and everyone else who took part.

VINCI would also like to thank the Fondation INSA and all the INSA schools (INSA Centre Val-de-Loire, INSA Hauts-de-France, INSA Lyon, INSA Rennes, INSA Rouen Normandie, INSA Strasbourg and INSA Toulouse) for their participation
