-- According to new national children’s health poll voters say, “What’s good enough for Congress is good enough for our kids.”

On the eve of the National Governors Association meeting where governors will focus on a variety of issues including Medicaid, a national poll is being released that will show that an overwhelming majority of voters believe government has a moral responsibility to protect the health security of our children by providing health insurance to every child.

Iowa’s Governor Tom Vilsack will be joined by the national children’s advocacy group, Every Child Matters, pediatricians, nurses, and children. Every Child Matters, who commissioned the poll, will call upon Congress to provide health insurance to every child and specifically highlight current legislation that would cover every child and save the states money.

Studies show that healthy children are better able to attend school, learn, grow, develop healthy lifestyles, and become productive adults. The Vilsack-Pederson Administration has conducted extensive grassroots outreach to make sure that every child in Iowa has their health security protected. The Iowa Department of Human Services has worked cooperatively with schools, medical providers, businesses, faith-based organizations and other entities in contact with families and children to expand health care coverage to over 90,000 previously uninsured children.
