Profile America Thursday, July 14th. Foods come and go in popularity, but one of them is a consistent favorite, year in and year out. To honor our long-running appetite, this is National Hot Dog Month. Whether called frankfurters in a tip of the hat to their German origin or wieners or just plain hot dogs, we love them. From cocktail miniatures to foot-long versions, Americans eat about 16-billion hot dogs a year. That works out to more than 50 for each person in the country. To note the strong affiliation of hot dogs and baseball, we consume more than 27-million each year at major league parks.
