The Guggenheim Honors Jack and Susy Wadsworth and Artist Carrie Mae Weems in Under the Oculus: A Celebration of Visionaries

The Benefit Dinner, Held Thursday, November 14, 2024, Featured Special Performances by Amber Mark, Esabalu, and DJ Mei Kwok.

On the evening of November 14, the Guggenheim New York celebrated its 2024 gala, Under the Oculus: A Celebration of Visionaries. The event honored Jack and Susy Wadsworth as well as artist Carrie Mae Weems for their vital roles in advancing the institution’s initiatives.

Held in the museum’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright–designed rotunda, the event began with an exhibition viewing of Harmony and Dissonance: Orphism in Paris, 1910–1930 and a reception at the museum’s Café Rebay. The night continued with a cocktail reception featuring a set by DJ Mei Kwok. Singer Esabalu kicked off the seated dinner with a performance, followed by a tribute to the evening’s esteemed honorees. The dinner concluded with a special performance by critically acclaimed musical artist Amber Mark.

Guests at the benefit dinner included Marianne Boesky, Gavin Brown, Jane DeBevoise, RoseLee Goldberg, Siddhartha Mukherjee, and Yasufumi Nakamori. Artists in attendance included Derrick Adams, Anthony Akinbola, Sanford Biggers, Stephanie Dinkins, John Edmonds, Alteronce Gumby, Oded Halahmy, Sheree Hovsepian, Rashid Johnson, Jill Magid, Mariko Mori, Rachel Rossin, Gedi Sibony, Taryn Simon, Sarah Sze, Mickalene Thomas, Fred Tomaselli, and Hank Willis Thomas.

This year Under the Oculus: A Celebration of Visionaries raised $2.3 million in support of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. As the museum’s signature annual fundraising event, the Gala greatly supports the advancement of an array of internationally acclaimed exhibitions, educational programs, and forward-thinking initiatives and honors the visionary individuals who invigorate our future.

2024 Under the Oculus: A Celebration of Visionaries cochairs are Abigail and Joseph Baratta, Wendy Fisher, Guggenheim Partners, Barbara and Andrew Gundlach, Janine and J. Tomilson Hill, Peter O. Lawson-Johnston Sr., Phyllis and Bill Mack, Almine Rech, Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, Susy and Jack Wadsworth, and Frank Yu. Vice-chairs are Jessica and Brian Robinson, and Denise and Andrew Saul.
