Rev. Michael H. Lavery’s Soul-Driven Novel of a Roman Soldier’s Quest for Truth Seen at Printers Row Lit Fest 2024
The Printers Row Lit Fest 2024 was an exciting opportunity for many authors to showcase their work in the very streets of Chicago where dozens of other books had their humble beginnings. It was the ideal spot for the book of Rev. Michael H. Lavery, whose book is all about finding truth in the most unlikely places. Its title is “Lucius,” and it tells a moving tale of one man who sought meaning after being disillusioned by the blood-soaked empire he was sworn to serve.
“This is the story of a man, tormented from defending the very empire he had grown to find repulsive and unjust. Like his father before him, he searches for an answer he was not sure could be found.”
The Printers Row Lit Fest took its name from the many printing houses that grouped together to serve as one of America’s biggest publishing hubs. And as visitors browsed the exhibits along the streets, they would still find plenty of intriguing stories that would make these literary forebears proud.
A good example would be “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey - A Man’s Search For Truth” by Rev. Michael H. Lavery. The book got its exhibit with the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company.
Set in the supposedly glorious days of the Pax Romana, “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey - A Man’s Search For Truth” follows Lucius, a well-decorated officer of the legions.
Lucius strongly takes after his father, a highly honored legate, and his family traces its military lineage all the way to the first sworn guardians of Romulus himself.
Yet for all the glory, honor, and respect that their name carried, Lucius also inherited a deeply held inner turmoil. On the one hand, his father had a duty to see that the shining might of Rome spread far and wide. Yet on the other, he could no longer turn a blind eye to the dehumanizing bloodshed and cruel slavery that was often the fate of Rome’s conquered peoples.
It was a conundrum that would haunt his father even to the day he would perish in battle.
One day, however, Lucius finds himself on a peculiar path to resolving the conflict within his soul. It begins with a reassignment to a far-flung corner of the empire. It’s a place teeming with rebellion. And yet, within its troubles, he encounters a greater truth that had long pulled at his soul.
Many visitors to the Printers Row Lit Fest were certainly excited to follow this story all the way to the end. But for those who’d still like to read it, “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey - A Man’s Search For Truth” by Rev. Michael H. Lavery is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and ReadersMagnet Bookstore.
