Ream Leaves Fulham

The Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached to allow Tim Ream, following his request, to leave Fulham and join MLS outfit Charlotte FC.

An outstanding servant to Fulham Football Club, the centre-back departs Craven Cottage with 312 appearances to his name – more than any other player in the 21st century, bar Tom Cairney.

“When I walked through the Motspur Park doors in 2015, I would have never predicted what the following nine years would bring,” Ream said. “The memories made, the connections formed, and the people met along the way have made my time at Fulham more than special.

“I wish I could thank everyone individually for the part they played in shaping me as player, but more as a person. For all of that, I am beyond grateful.

“As of today, I am no longer a player, but I will always be a fan of Fulham Football Club.”

“Tim is a Fulham legend, an indelible presence in our defence, an unparalleled professional, and a great friend to so many of us at the Club. We’ll miss him, but he goes with our best wishes for the rest of his wonderful career.

Fresh from winning consecutive Player of the Season awards at Bolton Wanderers, Ream joined Fulham in the summer of 2015. A regular under Kit Symons, the defender would later be deemed surplus to requirements by Slaviša Jokanović.

Unperturbed, Ream set about trying to change his Head Coach’s mind, with his efforts in training ahead of the 2016/17 campaign doing just that.

Not only did Ream pull himself back into contention, but he became one of the first names on Jokanović’s teamsheet. Such was the calibre of his performances, he won our 2018 Player of the Season award by a landslide – some achievement considering Ryan Sessegnon’s form that year.

That was the first of three promotions Ream won with the Club, with another Wembley victory followed by the Championship title under Marco Silva, a man who trusted Ream to help the team progress in the Premier League.

Up until breaking his arm in the April, Ream started every single match of the 2022/23 campaign, captaining the side in 32 of those, making a mockery of suggestions he was not cut out for the top-flight, as the Whites finished 10th.

The next season he became the first Fulham player since Simon Morgan – 26 years prior – to play 300 games for the Club. For context, only 30 players in our history have reached that milestone.

A leader in the dressing room and on the pitch, Ream was also a fantastic ambassador for Fulham away from football, regularly contributing to activities organised by our Foundation and in the local community.

While reluctant to see such a stalwart leave SW6, everyone at the Club would like to thank Tim for his immeasurable contributions over the last nine years, and wish him and his family all the very best of luck back in the United States.
