Pirelli and Faggioli Together on Porsche for the First Edition of Set the Time

The initiative will establish how quickly a road car such as the Porsche 911 (992), can cover the 13,450 metres of the route of the legendary Rieti-Terminillo hill-climb race

Milan – WEBWIRE

Pirelli reinforces its successful partnership with hill-climb speed champion Simone Faggioli by fitting a Porsche 911 (992), driven by the Tuscan driver for the first “Set the Time”, to be held on Sunday 4 August as part of the Rieti-Terminillo, a race valid for the Italian Hill-Climb Speed Championship North and South.

To accompany Faggioli in setting the road time for the first time in Europe for a non-competition car, Pirelli will supply the semi-slick P Zero Trofeo R tyres, developed for the most powerful sports cars. The time that the Porsche 911 will set on the 13,450-metre race track will be the future benchmark for all brands wishing to try their hand at setting road records, similarly to the Pikes Peak in the USA.

“We could not miss out on this initiative" explains Stefano Bizzi, Pirelli’s Motorport R&D manager, [i"not only because we have always been alongside Faggioli and on board Porsches on both road and track, but above all because where there is competition there is Pirelli and because Set the Time is in line with our development philosophy, which always sees a close relationship between sports and road cars, in a continuous exchange of experience, solutions and technologies”[/i].

[i"Having Pirelli by our side on this occasion too"[/i] comments Faggioli, “will make everything easier, both in terms of the performance that the tyres can provide and the quality of the technical assistance and approach strategy that the men from P Lunga will give. Set the Time is a test that other manufacturers can participate in the future to see what their time is on the track of one of Europe’s most legendary races”.

The test with the Porsche will take place at the end of the Rieti-Terminillo, where Pirelli will also fit the Norma M20 FC that led Faggioli to victory last year. After crossing the finish line, the champion will return to Lisciano, the starting point of the Rieti-Terminillo race, before heading back out onto the track in the Porsche.

The Trofeo R is an ultra-low profile track tyre with an asymmetric pattern, belonging to the P Zero family, the most perfomant of the entire Pirelli range and in constant technological evolution. Designed for track driving on dry asphalt, it is intended for road cars and not the most powerful and performance cars.
