Self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet is honored to display the photography collection by Lloyd Johnson, “Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest: Photographs from 1973,” at the 2024 Printers Row Lit Fest (PRLF). The open-air literary festival, which is the largest in the Midwest, will occur on September 7-8, 2024, at Printers Row Park, 620 S Dearborn St (Ida B Wells & Polk), Chicago, Illinois.
In “Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest,” photographer Lloyd Johnson takes his readers on a captivating visual journey through the landscapes and communities from Kathmandu to Everest. Rather than solely on summiting mountains, Johnson’s lens captures the essence of the people, their culture, and the unspoiled natural environment.
Lloyd embarked on this expedition in 1973, armed with his trusty Nikon F cameras. Venturing beyond the boundaries of Kathmandu, he willingly surrendered the comforts of modern living, embracing a world devoid of electricity, indoor plumbing, telephones, guest houses, and hotels. Throughout his odyssey, Lloyd approached his subjects respectfully, ensuring that every snapshot was an authentic and raw portrayal of life.
His three-week-long trek from Kathmandu through the Lamosangu and the Khumbu region, frequented by both climbers and trekkers on their way to the Everest summit, led him through a tapestry of small villages, monasteries, and bustling marketplaces, all set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring natural scenery. Lloyd Johnson’s intimate pictures offer readers a unique and exclusive chance to peer into a bygone era and gain an understanding of life as it was lived for centuries.
