New Mazda CX-90 PHEV earns highest accolade

The new Mazda CX-90 PHEV, a midsize SUV, earns a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

To qualify for the 2024 Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles need good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests as well as a good or acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. Other requirements include an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation and acceptable- or good-rated headlights across all trim levels.

The 2024 CX-90 PHEV earns a good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test, the differentiator between the lower-tier Top Safety Pick award and higher-tier Top Safety Pick+. The structure of the vehicle held up well, and measures taken from the driver and rear passenger dummies didnít indicate any heightened injury risks.

The plug-in hybrid SUV comes with a standard front crash prevention system that earns a good rating in the Instituteís pedestrian test. All trims are equipped with acceptable-rated LED projector headlights.
