Chelsea stars called up for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Chelsea Women players are set to feature at the upcoming Olympics after being called-up by their respective nations.


The 2024 Paris Olympics get underway next month, with the womenís football tournament kicking off on July 25. Twelve countries will contest the group stages, before the knock-out rounds, with the gold-medal match set to be played on August 10.

Seven cities will host the womenís football tournament: Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Nice and Nantes.

Former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has named Blues forward Catarina Macario in the United Statesí 18-player squad. The USA are in Group B alongside Zambia, Germany and Australia. Meanwhile, Maika Hamano has been included in Japanís squad.

This will be the second Olympics where Macario has represented her country. The 24-year-old was in the squad for the delayed games in Tokyo three years ago when the USA claimed a bronze medal.

Hamano could make her debut at the Olympics after being named in Japanís squad for Paris. The 20-year-old forward and her compatriots will come up against Spain, Nigeria and Brazil in Group C.

There could be further Chelsea representation at the Olympics this summer, with the final squad lists for France, Germany, Canada and Colombia among those yet to be confirmed.
