Get in the ghost-gustin’ spirit with a few basics for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

You know, the Evershade Valley was quite a lovely (though, rather creepy-looking) place. Well, at least until the magical Dark Moon suddenly shattered, turning the once-friendly ghosts hostile. Now, a very reluctant Luigi must reunite with Professor E. Gadd to restore the Dark Moon, clear the eerie fog, and return the ghosts to their normal, helpful spirits.

Well…that sounds like quite a haunting task. But no need to fear! We’ve scared up a few tips to help you get ready to boo-gie!

The tools

In times like these, you’ll be glad to have E. Gadd on your side! The professor is ready to help the best ghost wrangler he knows—well, the ONLY ghost wrangler he knows—with some frightfully fun equipment.

Poltergust 5000: This upgradable ghost gobbling tool has both suction and air-blasting functions that are useful for paranormal combat. You can use it to solve puzzles, find treasures, and move things around.

Strobulb: A charge-up light attachment for the Poltergust 5000 that’s perfect for stunning ghosts.

Dark-Light Device: Shed some light on mysterious hidden objects and make them appear.

Dual Scream: A device with two screens that works as a handy map and communication device. Technology!

Now that you’re all geared up, it’s time to get to work! But finding the Dark Moon shards won’t be a simple walk in the valley…

A job for Luigi…?

To take on rowdy ghosts, menacing mansions, and some rather prickly plants, you’ll want to know the ins and outs of the Evershade Valley.

Pick your mission

Since Professor E. Gadd has set up a base of operations in his impenetrable Bunker, you won’t have to worry about fighting ghosts while inside (phew!).

Select the mission that you’d like to go on and—with a little help from E. Gadd—use the Pixelator to transport from the Bunker to your destination. Being broken down into a bunch of pixels to move from one place to another may sound scary, but Luigi will (probably) be fine. Then, once you’ve completed all the objectives, pixelate back to the Bunker—easy piece-y!

What’s in those mansions?

E. Gadd will be able to direct you towards the Dark Moon shards in each of the mansions. The haunted halls of each location have a distinct vibe, along with their own tricky puzzles to solve. You’ll have to use our noodle to find your way through. While you’re at it, you could even look for—oh, we don’t know… treasure?! More on that later.

Pro tip: Check for things that look out of place. Do you see the corner of a rug lifted? Use the ol’ Poltergust 5000 and see what happens!

Ok, you’ve got your tools and your mission, it’s time to get to the ghosts (GULP!!).

Grappling with ghosts

Grappling with ghosts may sound hard, but the Poltergust 5000 is all warmed up and ready to go!

As a ghost starts to approach you, you’ll be able to stun them with a flash of light from the Strobulb attachment. Did you see that surprised look on their face? Now it’s time to start vacuuming the stunned ghost up!

Of course, these rabble-rousing spirits won’t go down without a fight, so when they start pulling away from you, use the controls to pull in the opposite direction. You’ll see a number above their head that, once it gets down to zero, will bag the ghost and maybe a little treasure!

(Wait, do ghosts have pockets? Where were they keeping all that loot? Anyways!)

Some ghosts are tougher than others, so it may take more than one Strobulb flash and game of tug-of-war to capture them. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it!

Pro tip: Sometimes Luigi will be able to look through windows, keyholes, and cracks to see into the next room. You can use this to see if ghosts are hanging out and come up with a plan of attack.

Speaking of treasure…

You can find treasure around the mansions, by solving puzzles, and by capturing ghosts. But what does it look like? And how will you be able to use it? Both are great questions and the mark of a great ghost wrangler!

Treasure can be coins, bills, and even bars of gold. You may even find gems along the way. We’re not exactly sure what they do, but we bet it’s something neat! Pick up these treasures by walking over them or drawing them in with the Poltergust 5000.

Once you’ve finished a mission and returned to E. Gadd’s Bunker, you’ll be able to unload the Poltergust 5000 to see what kind of goodies you’ve gathered up. Treasure earned will go towards unlocking powerful upgrades for the Poltergust 5000 that can increase damage, prevent the Dark-Light Device from overheating as quickly, and more.

Alright, ghost wranglers! We hope these tidbits will have you feeling ready for when the Luigi’s Mansion™ 2 HD game releases on June 27. If you’d like to pre-order the game, please click on the link below!
