TikTok Goes to The Met Gala

WEBWIRE

Every year on the first Monday in May, fashion, art and culture lovers around the world get ready for one of the most iconic nights of the year: The Met Gala. This year, as the lead sponsor of The Costume Institute’s 2024 spring exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, and the annual Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala), TikTok was thrilled to bring the biggest night in fashion to our global community.

TikTok creators and artists were on the scene in New York City for every moment: from #GRWM moments to showing off their custom looks on the red carpet; the chic official TikTok watch party; the star-studded afterparty co-hosted with Stella McCartney; and live reactions from the TikTok community. Around the world, more than 13.6M total viewers* tuned in to Vogue’s TikTok LIVE and rebroadcasts to get a glimpse of their favorite celeb looks on the red carpet, breaking platform records for the most watched red carpet LIVE, and one of the longest watched events streamed on TikTok LIVE. Since April 29, the number of #MetGala posts has increased 71%. ICYMI, below are some of our favorite moments from the day.

A first look at the spring exhibition

TikTok creators — including Carolina Vazzana (@cvazzana), Drew Afualo (@drewafualo), Eric Sedeño (@ricotaquito), Eni Popoola (@enigivensunday), Kate Bartlett (@katebartlett), Marielle Greguski (@mariellegreguski), and more — attended an early-access preview of Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, giving the community a first look at over 200 garments and accessories from The Met’s collection, all of which are visually united by nature — a metaphor for the ephemerality of fashion as well as its rebirth. The exhibition opens to the public from May 10 to September 2, 2024.

From the red carpet to our For You Feeds

Pop culture experts Reece Feldman (@guywithamoviecamera) and Tefi Pessoa (@hellotefi) were TikTok correspondents on the iconic #MetGala carpet, where they chatted with attendees about their interpretation of the night’s dress code, what they were most excited for, and more, as they made their way inside.

The Met Gala but make it the TikTok Creator Watch Party

We also hosted a group of TikTok creators from around the world for an official TikTok #MetGala watch party — including Chris Olsen (@chris), Sabrina Bahsoon (@sabrinabahsoon), Unice Wani (@unicewani), and more — where they were able to react to red carpet arrivals in real time and celebrate memorable fashion moments together. TikTok CEO Shou Chew (@shou.time) hosted an iconic group of guests including Ashley Graham (@theashleygraham), Camila Mendes (@camimendes), Charli XCX (@charlixcx), Jack Harlow (@missionaryjack), Joseph Altuzzara (@josephaltuzarra), Léna Mahfouf (@lenasituations), Leon Bridges (@leonbridgesofficial), and Wisdom Kaye (@wisdm8). With so much star power across fashion, music, and entertainment, there were too many show-stopping moments to count.

Dancing the night away

To keep the celebration going, TikTok partnered with beloved fashion brand Stella McCartney to host an afterparty that brought out a stylish mix of guests, from fashion VIPs to genre-defining talent. With music by Daisy O’Dell, guests included our CEO Shou Chew along with our table guests Leon Bridges, Camila Mendes, and Charli XCX, as well as an impressive list of A-listers.

Continuing the #MetGala memories
