A selection of Channel 4’s most iconic theme tunes might sound a little different in the next few days. The title music of shows such as Gogglebox and Countdown has been rearranged and performed on piano in celebration of the new second series of The Piano, which begins on Channel 4 on Sunday 28 April at 9pm.

Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan has rearranged hit song ‘Perfect World’ which serves as Gogglebox’s title music and, in tonight’s episode on Channel 4 at 9pm, we will hear the opening and closing music of the BAFTA-winning series as a piano medley for the first time.

Channel 4 News’ much-loved theme ‘Best Endeavours’, originally composed by Alan Hawkshaw, is also celebrating The Piano. Sunday’s news bulletin on Channel 4 at 6.30pm, is set to feature a version of the iconic music that has been rearranged and recorded by Phase Music and Universal Production Music.

Two more favourite tunes will also become piano music. Countdown’s famous theme has a toe-tapping piano remix in a new version by Steve Holness and Pascal Wyse, playing in episodes from Monday 29 May to Friday 3 May. Plus, the forthcoming series of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals will have new piano title music by Patrick Duffin in episodes airing from Monday 6 to Friday 10 May.

Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, said: “The Piano is that rarest of things, a TV show that makes people feel better about the world after watching it than they did before. We are spreading a little of that musical magic by replacing the theme tunes of some of our best loved shows with specially recorded piano versions. Big thanks go out to the talented composers and performers who have made this happen and our production partners who are joining us in celebrating the return of The Piano.”

The new piano theme tunes will air as follows:

  • Gogglebox, Friday 16 April, 9pm. Music by Steve Garrigan, series produced by Studio Lambert

  • Channel 4 News, Sunday 28 April, 6.30pm. Music by Phase Music and Universal Production Music, programme produced by ITN
