G. Michael Sanborn’s Memoir “An Alcoholic’s Collateral Damage” Will Be Displayed at the 2024 L.A. Times Festival of Books

They descended from being a very typical, middle-class 1950s family to living in poverty as their mother’s alcoholism overpowered her and profoundly affected them. The book is divided into developmental stages, usually by some rite of passage. After each section, G. Michael reviewed the compounding damage as they progressed through childhood. Their mother’s actions impacted their family life and their position in the community.

Through his book, G. Michael seeks to help others similarly harmed, validate what happened to them, and understand their feelings. He hopes he can positively influence alcoholics to understand, accept, and seek assistance to help their families. His book inspires alcoholics to find the courage to seek help and encourages anyone to appreciate and care for their loved ones.
